I had a mixed experience. The facility is beautiful, spacious and warm with ocean-view apartments, a well-equipped unit, entertainment, transportation, a library and walkable downtown access. Nursing and therapy staff (Dr. Morad included) were compassionate and competent-PT/OT helped my recovery, meds were reviewed, and many staff went above and beyond. Major problems came from administration: disorganized mismanagement, terrible communication, billing errors, ignored medical/swallowing instructions, failed discharge/transition assistance and even forced move-outs/breached contracts. I'm grateful for the care team but cannot recommend the place because of the unsafe, dismissive management; the food also needs real improvement.
Forest Hill Post Acute sits at 551 Gibson Avenue and has 26 beds, with 16 of them as private rooms, each coming furnished with a television and telephone, which helps give the rooms a bit more comfort and privacy, and you'll also find air-conditioning, WiFi, housekeeping, linen services, and private bathrooms in those rooms, which can make daily life easier. The building is Medicare and Medicaid certified, run as a for-profit corporation, and it's part of a bigger Continuing Care Retirement Community, so the place offers care options like Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, Respite Care, Hospice Care, Independent Living, Nursing Home, Home Care, and even Adult Day Services, which means people can move between different care types as they need.
Registered nurses stay on-site around the clock, so residents get continuous nursing care and there's always supervision with a 24-hour call system, which helps families worry less about emergencies. Forest Hill Post Acute's trained staff handles medical needs for people who need extra help, especially for those who are medically fragile or have complex cases, and the rehab team sets up personalized physical, occupational, and speech therapy for each person, working with families on therapy goals to help every resident try for as much independence as possible. They help out with bathing, dressing, and transfers, and provide medication management, wound care, rehabilitation, and support with all daily living tasks, and there's a coordinator to help new residents and families during the transition into care, offering 24/7 admissions.
Amenities include a dining room, family private dining rooms for gatherings, a small library, a wellness center, an outdoor patio, garden spots, and a fitness room, plus scheduled group activities, so there's a sense of routine and community. They provide meals that follow special dietary needs like diabetes diets or other restrictions, and offer dietary and pharmacy services, along with more medical services like podiatry, dental visits, diagnostic X-rays, and clinical lab work on-site. There's transportation support, whether for medical or social reasons, and residents can join group activities or just sit in the communal areas if they want. Forest Hill Post Acute has a full in-house rehab unit, offers both short-term rehab and longer-term skilled care, and works to make the stay as comfortable and homelike as possible during recovery.
They take Medicare, Medicaid, private pay, and most insurance, and participate in CMS Quality initiatives. The facility's part of a network with places like Forest Hill Manor Health Center, Carmel Hills Care Center, Pacific Coast Post Acute, and others, sharing some services and approaches. The staff manages all sorts of needs, including home care, hospice, respite stays, and active adult living, so residents can get both everyday support and more specialized care as needs change.
