Frasier Meadows in Boulder has been serving older adults for over 50 years, and you can tell by how much thought goes into daily life there, where the campus feels both active and peaceful at the same time, and you see folks walking on garden paths, reading in the library, or stopping by the barber shop or the salon, and everyone pretty much finds something that keeps them busy or comfortable. The community's non-profit status means staff and care teams, like the registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants, put residents first, working close with families and local health providers, including Boulder Community Hospital and Kaiser Permanente, so everyone gets care that fits their needs, whether it's for independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or even respite care. The Summit Care Center at Frasier, which is the skilled nursing side, gives around-the-clock help and up-to-date medical technology, and Meadows Assisted Living offers 19 custom apartments in a way that feels like a tight-knit family, while there are over 30 different floor plans in independent living if you're after more choices. Folks in all settings can join community activities, like movie nights, art classes, or just relaxing in a greenhouse or health club, and there's even a warm-water pool for folks who like to swim or need it for recovery. You'll find transportation and parking, all-day dining with special dietary options, help with housekeeping and dry cleaning, and you can bring along your own furniture, artwork, or even a pet if you like, and there are emergency alert systems in place for safety. While the memory care programs support those with Alzheimer's disease, there's also support for daily needs like bathing, grooming, and medication, and the community tries hard to help everyone stay independent as long as possible. Frasier Meadows is Boulder's only accredited Continuing Care Retirement Community and works with outside groups on health, wellness, and service, offering a Wellness Center that anyone age 65 or older may use. Residents can join in whatever suits them, with support nearby in case health needs change, so the same campus can feel just right at different times in your life, and people say it's a place with a real sense of home.

Lovely amenities, excellent food, costly
I found this to be a fine, home-like community - recently renovated with lovely grounds, greenhouse and fountain, large apartments with patios (dogs allowed) and reassuring security. The food is fabulous (two restaurants) and there are endless activities: resident-led clubs, music, intergenerational programs, and more; a pool/workout room is being added. Staff are friendly, caring and hardworking with low turnover and accessible leadership, though sometimes unevenly knowledgeable and a few processes feel like wasted staff time. Continuing care options, weight room, thrift store and monthly in-home checks are helpful, but it's not set up for dementia/memory care and the wagon-wheel layout can be confusing. My biggest issue is cost - very high buy-in and monthly fees (I could face about a $750,000 loss) and steep food charges, so it's excellent if you can afford it but too expensive for my finances.
