    Comfortable community with inconsistent management

I found the community clean, attractive and homey with comfortable apartments, excellent therapy, tasty meals, and lots of activities - the direct care staff were often friendly, knowledgeable and truly caring. Residents generally seemed well looked after and many employees went above and beyond. However, I also saw uneven management and staffing at times: slow call responses, communication and billing problems, occasional lapses in care/maintenance, and a high price point. Overall I'd recommend it cautiously - great when fully staffed and managed, but expect some variability.

    About Millcroft Living

Millcroft Living sits near downtown Newark and the Christiana Health Care System, and has served the community for over 40 years as a continuing care retirement community that doesn't require a buy-in, letting folks rent and choose from independent living apartments, licensed assisted living neighborhoods, and a 24-hour skilled nursing and rehabilitation center right on campus, so residents can move between levels of care if they ever need to as things change. The campus has gone through a full renovation, with phase one finished, so things look updated while still feeling homey, and includes brick and white facades, colorful flower beds, and a well-kept entrance sign greeting you as you come in.

People find different features at Millcroft like pet-friendly policies, high-speed Wi-Fi, and handicap accessible spaces, and there are private rooms with kitchen appliances, cable TV, and big windows that let in natural light, along with choices like kitchenettes or communal dining areas. The restaurant-style dining rooms are set with blue linens and sunflowers, and meals are served both indoors and outside, with the Nursing & Rehab facility having its own outdoor dining spaces decorated with umbrellas and bright tableware, while the fitness studio has treadmills, stationary bikes, and resistance tools plus extra seating if you need rest between activities.

There are lots of ways to stay active, like fitness classes, social gatherings, group outings for shopping or educational trips, and hobbies in the activity rooms, which include a game room with shuffleboard and a piano lounge with large windows and soft chairs. Residents can use the on-site library, general store, coffee shop, and computer room, or relax in one of the many cozy common areas with soft lighting and comfortable seating. The landscaped gardens give folks a quiet spot for walking or gardening, and pets are always welcome companions.

The staff offers different kinds of care including Independent Living for those who like their freedom without the hassle of chores, Assisted Living for folks who need help with bathing or getting dressed, and round-the-clock Skilled Nursing for people needing more medical oversight, with a nurse on staff part-time, plus Memory Care, Adult Day Care, Home Health, and Senior Services available too. There's short-term rehab led by a dedicated therapy team, respite care for relief, medication reminders, physical therapy, and help with daily tasks, so the community can support people as their health changes.

For fun and connection, Millcroft provides music programs, hobby clubs, educational events, pet therapy, and facilitated outings, and offers both veterans' aid assistance and religious services on-site, plus laundry, linen, and detailed housekeeping. Residents use the bright, inviting dining spaces, or join friends in the fitness rooms or shuffleboard tournaments. Adult Day programs run for seniors who don't live on campus, and there's always transportation to appointments, shopping, or events, so getting out is easy. Prospective residents can schedule tours to see the property and chat with staff and current residents. The state license number for Millcroft Living is 1099, and it's part of the Marriott Senior Living Communities family, also recognized as a Five Star Senior Living community, known for offering loving care and many choices for a peaceful, engaged lifestyle.
