    Beautiful campus but inconsistent care

I moved my mother here and overall I'm pleased - the campus is beautiful and clean, the food and activities are excellent, and standout staff (Eric, Marsha, Elizabeth and others) made the move smooth and very caring. Care and rehab are strong at times, but consistency is an issue: there have been worrying lapses in responsiveness and hygiene for some residents, occasional odors, and the fragmented multi-building layout can be inconvenient. It's pricey, but if you vet staffing and nursing closely, it can be a very good option.

    About Freedom Square of Seminole

Freedom Square of Seminole sits on 15 acres set up like a quaint town square, with brick streets, palm trees, walking paths, bridges, ponds, and even a private lake, and you see all sorts of animal companions around since they're pet-friendly. Residents can pick from studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, some with balconies that look out over the city, gardens, or sunsets, and every apartment has a private bathroom, wheelchair accessible showers, and grab bars, with extra touches like emergency pull cords, in-home emergency response systems, and expanded cable and Wi-Fi included. They've got pool and hot tub access indoors, a fitness center, art and craft studios, a library, game rooms, and a salon and barbershop, plus there are outdoor gardens, shaded walking paths, and plenty of common spaces inside and out for people to meet or relax. When it comes to dining, you get a range of choices like an elegant dining room, a café/bistro, a pub, and a private family room for gatherings, with meal options that cover anytime dining, room service, chef-prepared restaurant-style menus, and special diets including vegan, low-sodium, organic, gluten-free, and low or no sugar. Residents get weekly housekeeping, flat linen service, lawn care, and maintenance, and there's a concierge service for help with daily needs or scheduling transportation to doctor appointments, errands, or activities.

Freedom Square is a Life Plan Community, so people can move easily between independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing if their needs change. They've set up their campus with separate specialized areas, like a memory care building built to reduce confusion and help prevent wandering, using technology like bracelets and a computerized alert system to help staff keep residents safe. Staff are there 24/7 with RNs and LPNs on site, a nurse always on staff, and a doctor on call, and the skilled nursing center has 236 beds, with extra suites for rehab and both private and shared rooms in assisted living. They can handle a range of care, so they support things like simple standby, transfers using lifts, and help with more challenging behaviors, and they'll even work with residents who wander or have dementia or Alzheimer's, all backed by behavioral care programs. The staff-to-resident ratio is higher than state rules require, and they run personal care assessments and update care plans as needs change, so help with tasks like bathing, dressing, medication reminders, and daily checks are covered. Physical, occupational, and speech therapists, a visiting nurse, podiatrist, and dentist stop by regularly, and a wellness center offers fitness programs like yoga and other activities focused on staying active and involved.

There's always something going on, whether it's educational classes, arts and crafts, games, community service projects, or offsite trips, and there's a full event calendar with things like lectures, entertainment, and special gatherings for new residents. People who live there get to keep their independence with simple, maintenance-free living and a flexible program if they want to reduce costs upfront, plus there are life care contracts for predictable pricing and financial benefits like optional entrance fee refundability and some potential tax deductions. The community also offers devotional services, mail and postal help, visiting professionals, business centers with computers, and a general store on campus. Freedom Square has won awards, including a deficiency-free survey and has gotten recognition as a top community by national organizations. The grounds, with their gardens, ponds, and wide walkways, give everyone plenty of fresh air and quiet spaces, and the whole property is secured with 24-hour staff, security, and emergency help systems in place. It's built to make aging in place easy and give seniors peace of mind while still letting them enjoy a sense of community and a variety of activities every day.
