    Pleasant facility decline in care

I moved my mother here and at first I was impressed - friendly, attentive staff, clean, single-level rooms with walk-in showers/kitchenettes, lots of activities and a real sense of community. Over time food and nursing care declined: meals often cold/unappetizing, lost or damaged laundry, reports of theft, unattended call lights and unsafe transfers, and an unresponsive admin/board. Many staff are genuinely caring, but inconsistent management, mandatory meal/room policies, and safety concerns make me very wary. Pleasant facility with charm and activity, but proceed with caution.

    About Evansville Protestant Home

Evansville Protestant Home sits on the southeast side of Evansville, right on Washington Avenue, east of Highway 41, and west of St. Mary's Medical Center, and over the years a lot of people have found a good place to live there, because they've decided to offer several care choices like assisted living, nursing care, independent apartments, and a residential care home that helps with daily needs. The Home's got more than 140 residential rooms and over 100 skilled nursing care beds, along with newer remodeled apartments that have their own showers, carpeting, drapes, blinds, and appliances, so everyone can have a bit of comfort and put up their own things from home if they want, which has always made the place feel a little warmer. Residents get to enjoy meals planned and cooked by on-site chefs, get housekeeping and laundry taken care of, have cable TV, and emergency nursing care in the apartments, and there's always a staff around day and night who check in regularly, help with medication, and give assistance with walking, getting dressed, or anything else someone might be struggling with on their own as time goes on.

The facility puts a lot of attention on different care programs, from short stays and long-term options to therapies like speech, physical, and occupational therapy, offering memory care services for seniors with Alzheimer's or dementia-those rooms even have safety features to help prevent wandering and keep everyone well. People in the independent apartments, or what some might call the retirement community part, can still keep busy because there's a pretty big calendar full of activities, trips, church services in-house, plus all kinds of socials, educational get-togethers, and indoor or outdoor gathering spaces where friends can chat or just enjoy some fresh air. You'll find a beauty shop, pharmacy services, a podiatrist, and a therapy team right there, while groceries like meals, laundry, and housework are included in the living packages, so folks aren't doing much heavy lifting on any of those fronts. There's even a van for getting around town if someone isn't comfortable driving themselves.

The Home's always tried to make sure residents can live as independently as possible, but if anyone needs 24-hour nursing care or a little extra support day-to-day, the staff steps in with a gentle hand, paying attention to each person's needs so no one feels left out. Friends are easy to find because so many group activities happen in the common rooms and planned events, letting everyone keep old hobbies or try something new if they're up for it. The staff works hard to keep residents comfortable, safe, and well looked after, calling the place a home rather than an institution, and if anyone ever wants to see what's offered for amenities or available services, there's always a way to get a good look at how things are set up without having to dig around too much. Evansville Protestant Home keeps aiming to give everyone a good place to live as the years go by, keeping things relaxed and supportive, and offering care that fits whatever someone happens to need.
