    Beautiful grounds, staffing and care

I found the community beautiful with top-notch grounds and buildings, excellent food, lots of activities and multiple levels of care - CNAs worked hard and the administrator seemed professional. However, chronic staffing shortages, some rude or neglectful employees, spotty maintenance (even sprinklers soaking people) and inconsistent attention to residents are serious concerns. My relatives enjoyed their last days here, so I give a guarded recommendation: great facilities and programs, but confirm current staffing and care before you decide.

    About Greencroft Goshen

Greencroft Goshen sits on a quiet property in Goshen, Indiana, right next to Goshen College, where residents can enjoy plays, concerts, and other events nearby, and the community itself is made up of people from at least 20 different faiths, though the place was founded on Mennonite values and keeps a strong focus on faith, purpose, and friendship. Chaplains like Chaplain Dan lead worship, prayer, and Bible studies, so residents who want spiritual support can find it easily, but there's also a long list of practical services and care options, with independent living homes, assisted living apartments, a nursing care unit, and a program called Greencroft at Home serving folks right in their own houses in Elkhart County.

Greencroft Goshen, which was organized as a not-for-profit, faith-based continuing care living community system in 2002, employs about 1,100 people and has space and staff to serve around 2,000 residents in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan, offering a full range of care that includes everything from independent living for active seniors, to assisted living for those who need a little help with things like bathing, to skilled nursing and rehabilitation services with trained health professionals who help manage things like diabetes, incontinence, and mobility challenges. Some residents take part in adult day services or use respite care for short stays, and the center has made sure to include both onsite and offsite activity programs-like trips, fitness classes, clubs, support groups, and adult day services for persons with memory challenges-so folks can keep a routine, make friends, and stay engaged both mentally and physically.

Meals are served in the dining areas, offering nutritious food to meet everyone's dietary needs, and the campus has both indoor and outdoor spaces where residents can gather, relax, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere or the lively downtown Goshen area, which is well known for its arts and cultural life. The Greencroft Goshen Community Center holds recreation and activity programs, and there are things like workshops, seminars, discussion groups, trips to community attractions, and fitness activities either in the fitness room or run by the Cass County Council on Aging. Greencroft Goshen also provides general counseling and support services, is accredited as one of the first 100 continuing care living communities in the country since 1990, and manages both affiliated and local partnerships, always under the guidance of independent boards of directors.

People choose from a variety of housing options, including maintenance-free homes in independent living, affordable apartments, or more supportive settings if health changes require it, and each resident can live as independently as possible, with help available when it's needed. The staff are trained to encourage both community participation and privacy, and life enrichment programs work to make sure every resident has the opportunity to join in, learn, laugh, and adapt to the challenges of aging, whether that means joining a social club, getting involved in faith life, or relying on therapists for rehabilitation. The main grounds at 1721 Greencroft Blvd, right in Goshen, place residents close to shops, churches, and parks, so even while the property feels quiet and set back, there's always something going on.
