    Compassionate staff, beautiful grounds, issues

I placed my mother here and overall I'm very pleased - the staff are attentive and feel like family, the building and grounds are beautiful and clean, and care from independent living through memory and hospice is excellent with plenty of activities and music. Downsides: long waitlist, extra meal charges and uneven food quality, occasional management/financial headaches (deposit/room availability disputes) and some maintenance issues (leaky sliding door, cold apartments, uphill walk to dining). Despite that, the compassionate, high-morale staff made our experience overwhelmingly positive.

    About Meth-Wick Community

Meth-Wick Community sits on a 68-acre campus in Cedar Rapids, with woods, lawns, a pond with a little waterfall and koi, and walking trails with fitness stations. People who live here can walk outside, see flowers and grassy hills, or sit by the water and feed the fish, and folks can use the many trails for fresh air and gentle exercise. The community serves adults 55 and older and offers different living choices like independent living, Independence Plus, assisted living, memory care, and nursing care, so someone might start living there independently and later get more help if needed. Meth-Wick offers single rooms, two- or three-bedroom units, cottages, bungalows, condo and townhouse-style units, and studio apartments, each with a full-size kitchen.

In the Town Center, residents can get coffee, read in the library, play billiards, visit a doctor's office, shop for gifts, or go to an exercise room with senior-friendly equipment. There's a fitness zone with structured classes, a recreation room, outdoor flower courtyards with waterfalls, patios, and gardens, and a swimming pool with a jacuzzi. The campus has its own hair salon and barber and offers housecleaning, laundry, dry cleaning, and meal preparation. The staff can help with things like medication, walking, wheelchair use, bathing, and using the restroom. For those who need extra help, special bariatric rooms are available.

Meth-Wick Community provides wellness services, personal aides, religious services, skilled nursing, medication assistance, and scheduled visits from occupational therapists and physical therapists. The campus supports people who need memory care, respite care, behavior health help, rehabilitation and skilled nursing, transitional care after hospital stays, and cancer or heart care. There are services for hemodialysis, dental and skin care, inpatient and outpatient care, orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, respiratory care, kidney and renal treatment, and bariatric care.

People can join club activities, scheduled walks, exercise classes, poker, billiards, games, movies, bingo, and bowling, and they often get newsletters like Life At Meth-Wick, Legacy, and Mindful Scoop. Meth-Wick has its own bus and van, so residents get transportation to medical visits, offsite events, or shopping. There's community dining, on-site parking, and pet accommodations for some units. Meth-Wick offers respite care, adult day care, personal care assistance, and special programs for the six dimensions of wellness: spiritual, physical, vocational, emotional, intellectual, and social.

The community has served Cedar Rapids since 1961 and holds the distinction of being the largest and most experienced senior living community in the area. Meth-Wick provides private tours for those interested and has units available. It's open every day from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. People looking for the location or driving directions can find more information at methwick.org. Meth-Wick Community has received recognition as the "Best Senior Living Community" in the Corridor, and it's known for keeping wellness and community at the core of everything they do.
