    Cozy community, great amenities, concerns

I live in this small, beautiful community and appreciate the cozy atmosphere, great activities (exercise, library, spa, pool), and good food. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, caring, and very helpful - my one-bedroom is comfortable and maintenance-free. Family gatherings and dining are lovely, but I wish there were family restrooms for feeding/changing infants, and I felt management sometimes seemed more focused on money with little outreach after difficult events.

    About United Presbyterian Home

United Presbyterian Home sits on a 35-acre campus and welcomes senior adults with a range of care needs, from independent living to skilled nursing and Alzheimer's care, and the place offers many types of homes like cottages, apartments, retirement rooms, and nearly 30 condominium-style apartments, and for those who need more help, there's a 59-bed skilled nursing facility with nursing care, diabetic support, incontinence care, continuous supervision, and even non-ambulatory care when that's needed, and the caregivers help with daily things like housekeeping, bathing, dressing, setting up medicine, and getting to appointments or outings, which takes a load off. People living here enjoy common spaces meant for social gatherings, fitness classes, movies, games, bible studies, potlucks, and all sorts of activities, so no one has to feel alone or bored, and there are support groups, wellness programs, plus a full schedule that changes, but always tries to meet individual interests.

Everyone gets nutritious meals made with good ingredients, and there's a dining service, but also options for guest stays if family want to visit. Health and wellness take center stage at the Garrett Health & Wellness Center, which has a pool, fitness center, indoor walking track, and even a warm water therapy pool, and if someone needs therapy like speech, physical, or occupational therapy, that's available on campus with partners such as Aegis Therapies, along with home health services for those who are most comfortable getting care where they're living. The place supports seniors' ability to travel, volunteer, and engage with life beyond the gates, since it's close to hospitals, rehab centers, restaurants, and parks for when a change of scenery is welcome.

The staff supports assisted living services, skilled nursing, dementia care, and also provides special programs and resources like an Affordable Housing Toolkit, dementia-friendly resources, the POAMN Older Adult Ministry Guide, and hosts things like the Gathering ecumenical conference and Fundraiser's Forum to connect the community and help families navigate senior living. Social, educational, and entertaining activities are planned with quality of life in mind, plus there's a member benefits program, member directory, and group purchasing program that add value and support. United Presbyterian Home is part of the Presbyterian Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, and has served adults since 1947 as a continuing care retirement community-really, it's set up to meet changing needs over the years, giving people choices that fit both now and in the future, and the environment aims to be warm and welcoming, without being too fancy, focusing on comfort, connection, and making everyday life easier for residents and the families who care about them.
