    Beautiful campus, quality care, concerns

I found the campus beautiful and well-equipped - great nurses, therapists and on-site doctors, plus cafés, theater, dining and lots of activities that helped my loved one socialize. Many staff were caring, knowledgeable and energetic, and therapy clearly improved mobility and engagement. However I also encountered inconsistent aides, trainee nervousness, a sudden decline after 24 hours for one resident, and serious allegations about administration (false paperwork, visitation bans and financial/misconduct concerns) that left me uneasy. It's a high-quality, amenity-rich place in many ways, but because of the safety/management issues I can't recommend it without careful vetting.

    About Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community

Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community sits in Manhattan, Kansas, and carries a 4.1 rating from 32 reviews, which gives you a pretty fair idea of its reputation. The place has a not-for-profit structure and really seems to care about making each resident feel respected, offering privacy and a safe, warm setting. People say the staff treat residents kindly and help them with daily needs, whether that's bathing, dressing, or handling medicines, and you always see them working together as a team in a friendly way. The community's divided into separate neighborhoods such as Sloan House, where you see different care types like Assisted Living, Independent Living, Memory Care, Care Homes, and Senior Apartments. Folks with advanced care needs, like for dementia or Parkinson's, get special support through tailored programs, and the community keeps these areas safe to avoid confusion or wandering.

Residents at Meadowlark Hills follow their own routines and spend time on hobbies, making art, joining social programs, or going outside to walk trails, so people really do their best to keep living how they want. The place has wellness programs, therapy services, physician access, a salon, and a Prairie Star Restaurant that serves nutritious food, so there's a good balance between health and comfort. You'll see a lot of options for group activities, devotional programs, health checks, outings, and community events, plus transportation when people need to get around town. The Speedy PD program stands out for Parkinson's support, running certified 5K and 10K races and serious outreach for those affected.

People like having choices, so Meadowlark Hills offers independent cottages and apartments, Assisted Living for those who need a little help, full Nursing Homes, and Care Homes for folks who need live-in support. Memory Care's provided in smaller, family-style areas with dedicated staff to help reduce stress and keep people safe. The Passport membership gives extra access to events and amenities, and the pub makes for a relaxed setting during evenings. All these options sit together on a well-cared-for campus, and a new Independent Living building adds even more space for seniors who want active, hassle-free living in a strong community setting. In all these ways, Meadowlark Hills tries to help older adults live life on their own terms with support, purpose, and good company.
