Brookside Retirement Community sits on eleven acres with a lovely pond and landscaped outdoor areas, and folks around here know it's been part of the community since 1965, starting out as Brookside Manor, and you'll find that it's locally owned by Scott and Susan Averill, carrying forward the work started by Scott's late father, Chuck Averill. The place breaks into three neighborhoods that feel a lot like home, offering independent living, assisted living, memory care through the Ruble Ranch of Brookside, skilled nursing, respite care, and long-term care, while the care team provides help tailored to each resident. Residents choose among various studio room layouts, and some spaces come with personal kitchens. There are beauty salons right on site, state-of-the-art bath and spa rooms in each neighborhood, and communal dining along with options for independent meal prep and special diets. Brookside provides regular housekeeping, 24/7 security, complimentary transportation for errands and appointments, and runs physical, speech, and occupational therapies on site-it's even a certified anodyne therapy center. Residents spend their days with group outings, volleyball tournaments, cooking projects, pedicures, wellness and education programs, and plenty of community connection events that really do keep things busy for all kinds of interests. With 24 assisted living beds and a focus on maintaining a secure and friendly setting, Brookside also pays close attention to nutritional support and meal planning, offers comfortable places to relax or gather, and keeps the place looking welcoming and homelike, all while making sure family values and the small-town feeling stay part of everyday life.

Clean compassionate care, occasional issues
I toured the place and my grandmother lived here for three years - overall very positive. The facility is clean, sunny and peaceful with beautiful grounds, activities, a chapel, caring staff and involved owners who coordinate Nursing, Social Work, Dietary and Activities well. Rooms range from roomy private suites to small/shared or dated bathrooms, and some common areas need remodeling; food was okay but not remarkable. Be aware of occasional staff turnover, inconsistent meds/clothing mixups and uneven caregiving from a few staff, but I would still recommend it for compassionate, resident-centered care.
