    Beautiful campus, caring staff, expensive

I live here and overall I'm glad I moved - the campus is beautiful, activities are abundant (woodworking, art, fitness, library, waterfront) and the clinical staff (speech/PT, dietician, nurses) are caring and competent. Meals are served regularly and rooms are clean and modern, but apartments are small and the costs/entrance fees are very high. My biggest issues are chronic understaffing on the floor, long waits for care and occasional lapses in personal care and billing/management problems. If you can afford it and value excellent staff and amenities, I'd recommend with reservations.

    About Ginger Cove

Ginger Cove sits on over 33 acres along Gingerville Creek in Annapolis, where folks can find a calm, quiet setting with water views, walking paths, and lots of trees, and with a spot like this, you've got all sorts of options - independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, home health, and even hospice, so people can move in and know they've got care if things change. The community's run as the only true Life Care Community in Annapolis, which means when residents need more help, like assisted living, dementia support at The Heritage, or skilled nursing in The Harbor, they can move through different levels of care right there without leaving the grounds.

The building rises three stories and houses apartments in one and two-bedroom styles, with kitchenettes, washers, dryers, and private patios, and the memory care side keeps folks safe with protected areas but still encourages independence through person-centered and strength-based programs. There's a big health center with more than 60 beds offering around-the-clock nursing, rehab, and medical care, all supervised by experienced nurses and licensed professionals, like the LCSW-C John Beyer, plus virtual urgent care for minor things and 24/7 emergency response, which is handy for everyone.

Residents have all sorts of ways to keep busy, since Ginger Cove holds kayaking trips, croquet matches, art shows, and outings to theaters, museums, parks, and games, as well as classes, support groups, and volunteering for those who like to stay active in the mind or in the community. The place has a meditation garden, indoor pool, art studio, walking trails, a fitness center, salon, and even a soda shop, while inside, you'll find family rooms with fireplaces, a cocktail lounge, movie nights, a commissary, educational programming, and spaces to gather and socialize. Meals come chef-prepared and are served in pleasant dining rooms every day, and there's daily housekeeping and laundry, too, so people don't need to worry about chores.

The Heritage at Ginger Cove supports folks with dementia and memory loss, and they've got trained staff to help with personalized plans and activities that keep the brain active, all within a safe, locked environment designed to look and feel nice and let in lots of light. Family involvement matters here, and the staff take time to answer questions and work with caregivers, which seems important since everyone's got different needs.

Transportation is provided for errands, doctor visits, shopping, and entertainment, so you're not stuck if you give up your car, and guests can join for meals or events. Residents pick from various floor plans, all maintenance-free and designed so people can add their own touches. Social and recreational calendars are full, and you'll often find gatherings in the gardens or by the waterfront, or folks taking fitness classes or art workshops, because Ginger Cove tries to create a friendly setting that lifts people's spirits and brings neighbors together.

Ginger Cove operates as a nonprofit with a mission to make life full for people who are sixty and up, maintains strong financial reserves, and holds a CARF accreditation, which is unique for a continuing care retirement community in Anne Arundel County. Staff benefits, health care, and education resources show they care about employees, and that might help keep experienced nurses and caregivers around, which honestly helps with the feeling of stability in a place like this. Access to health care, personal support, wellness resources, and organized activities round out a busy, resident-centered community that tries to make every day meaningful, all in one spot along the creek in the heart of Annapolis.
