    Beautiful campus, inconsistent care concerns

I had a mixed experience. The campus is beautiful, well-maintained, offers multiple levels of care, nice rooms and bus service, and several nurses/CNAs were caring and attentive. However care was inconsistent and severely understaffed at times, the business office/customer service was unresponsive, communication poor, food awful, there were smoke/urine odors, and lapses in infection control led to COVID exposure. New management appears to be improving things and some staff are excellent, so I'd only recommend this place after confirming current staffing and leadership.

Highland Village of Fallon sits in Fallon and serves as a not-for-profit senior living community with several different care options, and there's always something going on with daily activities and programs for folks to join, so you see residents out and about. The place has 102 beds in its licensed Skilled Nursing Facility (license #4202), and offers skilled nursing around the clock, long-term care, respite care, and has a Bounce Back Rehabilitation Program for those needing physical therapy after an illness or injury. There's a 26-bed Alzheimer's and dementia unit with the secure Garden Court neighborhood, so people who need memory care can get some peace of mind and a little independence, plus the Memory Lane fitness for the mind program focuses on keeping folks sharp.

Highland Manor Skilled Nursing, Highland Inn Assisted Living, Highland Estates Retirement Apartments, and single-family or duplex homes make up the housing options, and there are 41 apartments in the estates, and they accept small pets up to 20 pounds. The Hawthorne Inn offers assisted living services, and independent living is available too, which lets people live how they want, but with some help when they need it. They do daily wellness checks, help with personal care, manage medication, and have registered nurses around all the time, with on-site doctor visits as well, so health gets attention. Outpatient therapy services, physical therapy, and a Bounce Back unit for rehabilitation, as well as on-site rehab, happen right there.

AJ's Fitness Center and Wellness Program encourages folks to move around, and you'll find a good-sized gym, fitness center, and walking trails for anyone wanting to get out in the sun. The place has weekly housekeeping and linen service, with laundry offered for a small charge, or you can use free washers and dryers. You get two meals daily served up and there's a private dining room for families to gather, plus meals are planned by a registered dietician so nutrition's in good hands. Satellite TV comes with the apartment, and all utilities except the phone are covered. There are large, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms with safety features because safety's a big concern. Licensed nursing staff are always present, and the place runs daily wellness checks just to make sure everyone's doing alright.

You'll also see a lot of events and get-togethers with weekly fun activities and things like movie and game nights, happy hour every month, and plenty of chances for residents to be social with each other and staff. The Community Room is used for meetings, and they work with local service providers, sometimes even hosting parades put on by the American Legion. The Activity Director schedules educational and recreational programs, so folks don't get bored. There's a beauty and barber shop, a library for quiet reading, parking, computer and internet access, and scheduled transportation to get residents out for shopping or appointments. Security is on 24 hours a day, and there's always staff you can call for help. The buildings and grounds have wheelchair access, and the open hours for visitors are convenient, running daily from 8:00 to 5:30, with signs for finding your way around. The community is part of RFMS, which serves clients in Illinois, Iowa, and Nevada, and Highland Village of Fallon provides a range of care types, from independent living, to assisted living, to nursing and memory care, and offers advice and planning for senior living options so people can get the care they need when they need it.
