    Caring staff; costly, disappointing dining

I moved my mother into this brand-new, beautiful community with large apartments, well-kept grounds and lots of activities - she blossomed and the nurses/LNAs, housekeeping and maintenance have been attentive and caring. The dining room, food quality, and social dining experience are disappointing (stressful service, sugary/salty meals, extra-cost cafe lunches), and the site is fairly remote. Management feels business-first at times - steep rent (~$3,400-$3,700), upfront deposits/meal-bank rules, annual increases and occasional staffing cuts - and that hurts community warmth and socialization. Overall she's safer and happier in many ways and I'm grateful for the staff, but be prepared for high cost and dining/management issues before deciding.

    About RiverWoods Manchester

RiverWoods Manchester is a non-profit senior community sitting on 29 wooded acres in a quiet country setting, yet it's close to both downtown Manchester and Concord, and, being the only Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in the greater Manchester area, it gives folks a range of care under one roof, which is handy because the place covers Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Support, and Enhanced Assisted Living (Nursing), each tailored depending on what a resident needs at any given time, and the grounds include walking paths, gardens, and cottages along with one- and two-bedroom apartments that come in sizes from 624 to 1,656 square feet, making it possible to pick what works best for each person's space needs or budget, especially with the Flex Contract option that helps residents only pay for the care they require, all while there's guaranteed access to healthcare through a Life Plan Community setup which eases some future worries.

The community has been nicely renovated and expanded over the years and welcomes adults 62 or older who want a modern, active lifestyle, offering things like a new fitness center for chair yoga and Tai Chi, an arts room, music and art programs, woodworking in a full woodshop, and gardening in set-aside gardens, plus there's an ever-changing social calendar with events, educational opportunities, tap dancing, group outings, and movie nights, and those who like to socialize will find a small nook for coffee, community-sponsored activities, and various resident-run clubs, giving everyone a shot at friendship and hobbies without having to go far.

Pet lovers can bring their pets, and the homes are accessible for anyone needing extra support, with help available for things like bathing, dressing, medication, and transfers, because nurses and nursing assistants are on duty 24 hours a day, and the care team crafts custom plans so residents get just the right amount of help, plus Memory Support services have their own staff focused on privacy and dignity for people with Alzheimer's or dementia while Enhanced Assisted Living (Nursing) is there for anyone who develops more complex health needs, providing all care in private rooms, and the community's won awards like Best of Senior Living and All-Star Award for how well they support residents.

Meals are prepared by chefs and offer a flexible meal points program, with food served in a furnished dining room where menus address allergies and special diets like diabetes, and if someone needs housecleaning, laundry, or basic maintenance, those are all handled, as well as transportation to appointments or errands. There's an emergency alert system, salon, parking, storage, and both furnished and unfurnished options for living spaces, with VA benefits, including Aid and Attendance, to help pay for care if you're a qualified veteran or spouse.

Residents can enjoy inside and outside maintenance handled by staff, safe walking paths for strolls, handicap accessibility, move-in coordination, and parking for drivers, while those who like independent living with less fuss can find no-frills senior apartments or, if needed, share neighborhood homes with a live-in caregiver for day-to-day help. RiverWoods Manchester, as part of the RiverWoods Group, stays one of the largest CCRC families in New England and stands out as a verified choice for people who want both independence and healthcare down the road without fuss, relying on a range of services meant for comfort, safety, and an active, friendly atmosphere.
