    Thoughtful caregivers, clean facility, homey

I placed my mother at Foxden and we couldn't be happier. The caregivers are thoughtful and compassionate, rooms and facility are very clean, the food is tasty, and there are abundant activities, van trips and a lovely garden/pond view that make it feel like home. Staff and administration are responsive, laundry and maintenance go above and beyond, and the all-inclusive pricing worked for us. Not for advanced memory care, but for assisted/independent living it's a warm, attentive community I highly recommend.

    About Foxden Retirement Community

Foxden Retirement Community sits in Sandown, NH, and feels much like a large family home where folks help each other and know each other's stories, and that's probably because it's still small, with 32 beds split between 20 private rooms-with bay windows, private sinks, and semi-private bathrooms with showers-and 12 efficiency apartments that each have a kitchenette with a refrigerator, a stove, and a bay window looking outside, so residents who've always liked a bit of independence find it easy to settle in. Foxden focuses on seniors usually aged 55 and up, with special care plans for those who need a hand with daily things like getting dressed, bathing, or managing medications, and you'll find staff around all day and night, always ready to step in if someone needs help, which makes families breathe easy.

There's a laid back dining room where residents get three home-cooked meals every day-nutritious food that uses real, quality ingredients-and folks really enjoy sitting around the big family-style tables, sometimes with the piano playing in the background. The activity room sees plenty of use with planned daily activities, movies, and exercise programs. The staff run music therapy, animal therapy, and activities that keep hands and minds busy, and there's a Senior Living Counselor on site for support and advice. In addition to regular care and supervision, Foxden provides memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, as well as respite and hospice care for those who need it, always following careful care plans based on senior care standards. For people who prefer a more independent lifestyle but like having people around, Foxden has independent living options with condo- or apartment-style setups, and there's even home care services for seniors who still live at home but like someone stopping by for companionship or light help.

Amenities include a library that's nice for reading or a quiet chat, a large living room with comfortable seats and a TV, and gardens where people relax or visit with family. There's laundry and housekeeping, regular on-site healthcare, and special diets for things like diabetes or high blood pressure. Residents can get to doctor appointments, shopping or church with the Fox Den bus, and there's parking for those who drive. Transportation is a big help, especially to scheduled events or just out to eat now and then. There are social events, community nights, movie entertainment, recreation rooms, and maybe even a jacuzzi or sauna for some relaxation, plus a salon service or a mobile hairdresser, which a lot of folks appreciate. Staff help with anything from bathing and dressing to medication reminders, and they've got a reputation for being kind, patient, and happy to stop for a chat.

Foxden uses a profile management system to keep track of each resident's needs and offers options for people to update their information, so care stays current and personal. There's always a detailed map of the community so residents and their guests can find their way around. Pricing for different room types is published, with some amenities included in the rent and other services like extra laundry or special outings available for a bit more. Foxden has won several awards for quality care, including Best of Senior Living and All Star awards, and many seniors say the atmosphere's warm and welcoming, kind of like living with extended family.
