    Beautiful campus, mixed care concerns

I toured and visited family here - the campus is beautiful, very clean and hotel-like, with lovely apartments, outstanding restaurant meals, a pool, gym, therapy, active programs and staff who really know residents' names. I appreciated the continuum of care, on-site rehab and convenient transportation. My concerns: I witnessed long waits for help, slow emergency response at least once, occasional neglect/rushed or hostile staff, and maintenance issues in spots. It's expensive, requires age-62 entry and has a limited memory-care waitlist - great amenities if you can afford it, but read the contract and staffing/emergency policies carefully.

    About The Nottingham

The Nottingham is a senior living community in New York offering several types of care on one campus, which makes it easy for older adults to age in place if their needs change over time, and you'll notice that the independent living options are good for people who want their own apartment but appreciate help with things like meals, driving, housekeeping, and social activities, and they have different floor plans available like studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, even some with patios or balconies, and you'll see there's space for guests to visit or stay overnight, plus there's cable, Wi-Fi, and full kitchens for cooking at home if you want. The community includes assisted living for seniors who need more help with things like bathing, getting dressed, or managing medications, and staff is always on hand to help with moving from bed to wheelchair or giving diabetes care, and there's 24/7 staff if something urgent happens, and The Glens is their dedicated assisted living option with private apartments and parking garages. Memory care is on campus for people living with memory loss, Alzheimer's, or dementia, with increased safety, support, and supervision, and skilled nursing care is available for anyone needing round-the-clock medical attention or rehab after illness or surgery, since they have a licensed skilled nursing program through the state as well as hospice and respite care.

Residents can choose private or semi-private rooms, and the apartments have things like air conditioning, laundry, and either kitchens or kitchenettes, and some have porches, and there's a range of help offered, like weekly linens, showering, dressing, medication administration, laundry, case management, and extra move-in support. There are transportation services to take folks to shops, appointments, or outings, so you don't need to worry about driving if you don't want to, and there's plenty to do with indoor and outdoor recreation like an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, putting green, shuffleboard, Nintendo Wii bowling, fitness classes including yoga and chair yoga, and there'll be scheduled occupational or physical therapy visits for those who need rehab support. Activities range from cultural outings and poetry readings to movie matinees, swimming classes, happy hours, craft studios, a resident music group, and offsite trips, and special amenities include a cocktail lounge, on-site beauty salon and barber shop, game nights, an arts and crafts room, a bistro for more casual meals, multiple dining rooms, and spaces for religious services if you wish.

There's a fitness center, library with reading and computer areas, atrium, private meeting rooms, clubhouse with gathering spaces, community lounges, and common rooms with TVs, plus heated indoor whirlpool, scenic paths for walking, outdoor patios, and gardens cared for by staff. The campus is two stories with elevators, parking garages, and has both indoor and outdoor parking for visitors and residents, and apartments and public areas are kept clean by housekeeping and groundskeeping. Residents can bring some pets with them, and there's help available for things like grooming, personal care, and diabetic care, as well as support for communication with family, and there are program options provided in partnership with local schools and art centers, including English as a Second Language for those who want to brush up on skills. Residents can choose from different dining locations, whether that's the main dining room for formal meals, the bistro for snacks and coffee, cozy meals at home, or even cocktails at the clubhouse, and the kitchens serve a variety of meals to meet dietary needs.

The Nottingham offers a continuum of care including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, adult day care, rehabilitation, and retirement community amenities, and you'll find that services like home health, personal care, case management, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, and scheduled transportation come included with certain care plans. The aim is to look after comfort and safety with rooms designed for privacy and ease, and the staff checks backgrounds before hiring. Residents can tailor their experience to need more or less assistance as their situation changes, and there are always programs running to keep seniors socially engaged-from art classes to storytelling, lectures, educational programs, and exercise. Payments by check are accepted, and second-person fees apply if you share an apartment. The campus is licensed by the State and offers reliable skilled care on site, so people don't have to move again for different needs. All in all, The Nottingham brings together a range of living and care choices in one self-contained community, with a focus on keeping life as comfortable and independent as possible for its residents.
