    Beautiful campus, concerning care issues

I love the place-beautiful, clean, hotel-like campus with great amenities, rehab services, lots of activities, and many genuinely caring staff and good food. But I also experienced/read frequent problems: chronic understaffing and high turnover, poor communication and language barriers, and serious care lapses (long call-bell waits, missed meds, pressure sores/neglect); it's also very expensive. Tour carefully, ask specific staffing/monitoring questions, and be cautious with frail loved ones.

    About Epworth Villa

Epworth Villa sits in Northwest Oklahoma City as a Life Plan Community, giving seniors many living and care choices all in one place, so folks can move between independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and long-term care if their needs change over time, and this is sometimes called a Continuing Care Retirement Community or CCRC, which means adults ages 62 and up can move into apartments, cottages, or garden homes and stay on the same campus with access to whatever care they need now or later. The rooms are set up for safety and comfort, with emergency call systems in every apartment, most apartments coming with a washer and dryer, and all including basic cable TV and Wi-Fi, plus the campus allows pets, so residents can keep animal companions, and there's a mix of floor plans, like studios and spacious cottages, so people can choose what suits them best. There's a wide range of care, from private help with bathing, dressing, and taking medicine in assisted living, to special care for memory loss, to skilled nursing and rehab visits, and everyone gets an individual care plan reviewed by nurses and doctors, some who work right on campus, since Epworth Villa partners with OU Health to run a clinic where OU Health's Geriatric Medicine staff, including Dr. Thompson, provide check-ups and sick visits, making it easy for seniors to see a doctor without leaving the community, and the age-friendly primary care means older adults can get all their health needs met right where they live. Amenities are tailored for seniors, so besides healthcare there's an on-site bank, a mini-market, and pharmacy, along with an on-site salon and spa for personal care, a movie theater for films, several dining rooms with meals that meet special dietary needs, and spaces to gather whether it's for coffee, tea time, or happy hour, and there's planned activities every week, like Bible study groups, church services, arts and crafts, shopping and entertainment trips, music events, and exercise classes shaped for older adults, with counseling and spiritual services offered through the chapel, since the community is affiliated with the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church. Epworth Villa has a Woodshop Crew that brings together folks who like working with their hands and builds friendships while making things, and the community encourages residents to share their own stories about living there, which helps new people feel welcome. For those who need extra care, there's priority access to long-term care, memory care, skilled nursing, and rehab beds, and any resident can sign up for transportation to run errands or go on outings. The staff and nurses are available twenty-four hours a day, with help just a call away in case of emergency or if somebody needs help with daily tasks like getting dressed or with medication. Many residents enjoy finding quiet or social spaces, whether it's a comfortable room to rest in during a rehab stay or a place to join musical and cultural entertainment with neighbors, and the grounds feature gardens and walking paths. Epworth Villa sets out to give older adults a place where they can keep their independence as long as possible, knowing that more help is on campus when needed, and since the place is not-for-profit, the focus stays on care and service rather than making money, so the community keeps looking for ways to serve seniors well and make life a little easier along the way.
