    Beautiful active community but pricey

I love Mountain Meadows - beautiful, very clean grounds, friendly and active residents, and wonderfully helpful staff. Dining is generally excellent (fresh salad bar, tasty mains and desserts) and the amenities/activities - fitness center, pool, hikes, concerts, classes - keep it lively. Downsides: it's pricey with rising dues, not a continuing-care community (limited on-site healthcare/geriatric access), and some aging/maintenance and reduced entertainment/dining frequency. Five stars from me - would give six if it were more affordable and had stronger on-site healthcare.

    About Mountain Meadows

Mountain Meadows sits in Ashland, Oregon, tucked in the Rogue Valley's gentle hills, where residents can look out over lush greenery and breathe in the fresh, temperate air, all while being minutes from downtown and close to medical care and local places to visit. The community is for those aged 55 and older and focuses on active retirement, with people owning their homes in classic craftsman-style houses or hillside and parkside condominiums. The Parkside Village Homes are a unique part of the neighborhood, and listings and rentals are available for those looking to join the community. Many homes offer nice views and upgrades, and the property is known for attention to detail, sturdy construction, and comfort, with affordable options and mobility-accessible apartments.

There are gardening plots, a four-acre park, and a pet area outside, so people can stay connected with nature and enjoy walks or outdoor activities at a relaxed pace. Social life buzzes around the clubhouse, which serves as the heart of Mountain Meadows, with dining at the Meadowlark, community rooms for gatherings, and regular group activities, cultural programs, volunteering, and entertainment. Residents find support for staying healthy with a fitness center, healthy living programs, and planned outings. Yard care and in-house laundry services help make daily life simpler, and transportation is available for appointments, activities, and errands. Meals are served in the dining room or delivered to the home when needed.

The staff is trained and friendly, ready to help with everyday needs, and Mountain Meadows offers rehabilitation and skilled nursing services. Safety matters here, so the facility has secure access, and mobility barriers are kept low with elevator buildings and accessible units. The community's social schedule is full, with educational programs through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Southern Oregon University, bringing opportunities to stay sharp and make new friends.

Mountain Meadows has earned national and state awards, including recognition as America's Best Small Active Retirement Community by the National Council on Senior Housing and the top spot for retirement communities in Oregon on Best Retirement Destinations. Residents enjoy a balanced life, with opportunities for social, physical, and cultural engagement, all in a setting designed for "aging in place," so people can stay comfortable and involved as needs change. The property is managed by professionals, and shared resources are well maintained, so the environment stays warm, inviting, and ready for seniors who want a fulfilling and active lifestyle.
