    Warm staff, amenities, but costly

I toured and liked the warm, professional staff, roomy apartment-style units, restaurant-style meals, abundant activities, pool/therapy and on-site medical services - the place is clean, safe, pet-friendly and conveniently located. That said, extra fees, higher costs for patios, spotty management communication, some maintenance issues and COVID lockdowns limited amenities, so it ultimately wasn't the right fit for my loved one. Good option for ambulatory, independent seniors-ask lots of questions about costs, care levels and maintenance before you commit.

    About Ashbridge Manor

Ashbridge Manor in Downingtown, PA lets residents live with comfort and care at their own pace, and one thing that really stands out is the choice to bring cats or dogs since it's a pet-friendly place with wide walking trails, landscaped grounds, and a big gazebo where you might see people sitting or talking. They've got both one- and two-bedroom apartments, all with full kitchens and full-size appliances, safety rails, and non-skid floors in the bathroom, and the ground floor units have easy access for wheelchairs and walkers, which makes moving around easier if that's needed. There's always emergency call alarms in the apartments, and the heating and air conditioning can be set for each unit, so no one has to be too hot or cold unless they want it that way.

You'll find plenty of common areas inside and out, like the courtyard and fitness center, a computer center, and a heated indoor pool where people join in for therapy or just to relax, plus a community room used for arts, card games, or as a spot for gatherings with the Social Director running things. Residents can enjoy scheduled activities from Monday to Saturday, with art classes, cooking classes, live music, educational talks, and even trips out to museums or theater shows happening on a regular basis. The Tavern is set up for happy hours or movie nights with a big screen TV, giving folks a chance to unwind in the evenings.

Meals come as part of living here, so people don't have to worry unless they want to cook in their apartment-every month covers a deluxe continental breakfast and a full three-course dinner served in the Dining Room, plus meals for guests are possible, and if someone prefers to eat with friends or invite family, that's an option. They keep things social with both indoor and outdoor devotional services and gatherings, and there's scheduled transportation for appointments or errands, which is handy for those who want to get out sometimes.

Care is flexible and covers independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and even continuing care retirement community (CCRC) options, so as people's needs change, support can adjust without requiring a move somewhere else. Caregivers can help with daily medication, and the 24-hour concierge service means someone's always nearby, but monthly rent includes almost everything already, from all the amenities and activities to housekeeping and linen service once a week. Residents never have to pay an entrance fee, and all utilities like water and electric are part of the package, so it's a predictable way of life without surprise bills.

Each apartment gets plenty of light, and with seven floorplans-The Wyeth, Berwyn, Chadds Ford, Valley Forge, Winterthur, Ashbridge, and Brandywine-there's a good chance people can find a layout that feels comfortable. Safety features like pull-down shower seats and grab bars are in all bathrooms, and with staff around for help as needed, people can stay as independent as they're able. The mix of independence, services, social events, and care options gives Ashbridge Manor a laid-back, simple way of living, designed to make life easier and provide a welcoming place for folks as they age.
