    Mostly pleased with community improvements

I live here and am mostly pleased: very clean, friendly staff, happy residents, and a lovely busy historic village with bus trips, bingo, art classes and plenty to do. New Director Michelle has improved maintenance and new dining director Jenn has made food noticeably better (about 50%); a 5-week menu is coming. Downsides: limited amenities (tiny gym, no garage parking for apartment residents, cottages can't be expanded), staffing shortages and a shared/rotating residential nurse, plus squirrels chewing wiring under cars. Pricing felt like a bait-and-switch with a double entrance fee and time wasted, though billing is otherwise transparent and only hair care is extra. Overall, I have no major complaints.

About SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Gettysburg

SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Gettysburg sits on 21 acres along Old Harrisburg Road in Gettysburg, right near the national military park, so there's a sense of history and plenty of open scenery with orchard-covered hills and peaceful farm fields around. The community gives folks a choice of maintenance-free cottages or one- and two-bedroom apartments, with several dozen floor plans to pick from, and the buildings sit along mature, tree-lined streets that are good for walks or just enjoying the outdoors, and some places even have views of the park cannons. Residents can have dogs, cats, or birds, so pets are part of the neighborhood, and they can be found in both apartments and cottages, some of which offer up to 1,800 square feet, red brick exteriors, sunrooms, and attached garages.

The community's designed to let people age in place, offering different care levels all in one spot, so someone can move from independent residential living to personal care, memory support care, or skilled nursing as needs change. There's always access to 24-hour nursing and help, with services like personal care, rehabilitation, and long-term skilled nursing, including Medicare and Medicaid certification for skilled care. Admissions to skilled care can happen any day, and care teams work directly with residents, their families, and personal physicians, especially as health needs become more involved. The staff brings in specialty care too, like post-acute support, pain and wound management, after-stroke care, cardiac help, memory support, hospice, and therapy, along with lab testing and x-rays right onsite. They also offer home safety checks, clinical nutrition, and social services, and there's a team approach where families can stay involved in the plan of care.

Life here encourages new friendships, exploring hobbies, and staying involved, with the Spirit360® program bringing things like gardening, cooking groups, Bible study, games, art, fitness sessions, movie nights, outings, and cultural events, plus worship services and a resident council. For getting around, there's transportation to medical appointments, and plenty of common spaces like walking paths, lounges, a gift shop, a library-computer room, a fitness and wellness area, a bird aviary, and a chapel. The dining service is open and flexible with restaurant-style meals, offers help for special diets, and there's also salon and barber services, pet therapy, pastoral care, laundry and housekeeping to keep up with daily needs. The whole place is laid out with a small, comfortable neighborhood feel, and since it's the only retirement community bordering the Gettysburg National Military Park, there's a strong sense of place, as well as the peace of mind that folks can stay and get care as their needs change without having to leave the community they've grown used to.
