    Attractive, active community, pricey caveats

I toured this attractive, well-kept community and was impressed: staff were friendly and knew residents by name, the social life is busy (dancing, trips, crafts, movies, regular activities), dining is upscale and nutritious, and the apartments/floor plans and amenities (exercise, pool, reading/games rooms, basement storage) are solid. Medical care and rehab seemed responsive and personalized. Big caveats: it's expensive with large upfront/liquid-asset requirements and some reports of sales pressure and staff turnover/inconsistency - I liked it, but would verify staffing, costs, and contract terms before committing.

About Poplar Run a StoneRidge Retirement Living Community

Poplar Run, a StoneRidge Retirement Living Community, sits at 450 E Lincoln Ave in Myerstown, Pennsylvania, serving seniors with several living choices like private rooms, apartments, and cottages in unit sizes that include both one-bedroom and two-bedroom options, all in a pet-friendly setting for small pets with consideration for all. This faith-based, not-for-profit community operates as a Continuing Care Retirement Community, or CCRC, which means residents can access independent living, personal care, skilled nursing care, short-term rehabilitation, and memory care services all in one location, and with state-specific independent living and personal care home licensing for Pennsylvania, the community stays in compliance with regulations. There are 143 total apartments and cottages plus a separate personal care home with 30 additional units, all with 24-hour supervision and the support of licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, a social worker, an Executive Director, and a Director of Nursing.

Residents get three scheduled meals each day in the dining room, with a menu that rotates and offers allergy-sensitive, diabetes-friendly, and specialty diet options, and the Vistas Restaurant hosts made-to-order meals and themed dining events. Housekeeping comes bi-weekly, and laundry and dry cleaning are available. Help with bathing, dressing, medication monitoring, and transfers is always there, and an emergency response system is built in for quick help if anyone needs it. The staff can help residents move in and even offer furnished residential rooms if needed. Transportation services take residents to medical appointments and on luxury day trips, and the community room, movie nights, libraries, and game rooms make sure there's always a spot to gather or something to do.

The campus gives access to a full wellness and fitness program, indoor pool, spa, and a gym, letting residents join fitness classes or use equipment on their own. There's a massage therapy facility, greenhouse, garden plots, woodworking shop, and storage areas, and no one's left out from the community-sponsored activities-BINGO, educational programs, fashion shows, lifelong learning, and trips to theaters or sporting events fill the calendar. Activities staff and therapy teams offer a variety of choices, and a secured memory care unit supports those with additional needs. For worship or quiet reflection, there's a chapel, and the community includes a bank, café, convenience store, library, and a theatre, all under the same roof or steps away on campus. Non-ambulatory residents get support, and English-speaking caregivers provide care around the clock.

Short-term respite care lets families get a break, while long-term nursing care in the skilled nursing facility comes with a 5-star rating, 24-hour nursing services, and a therapy team who provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy in an accessible gym, and residents can relax in a fully enclosed and covered patio on pleasant days. Residents who want more independence can pick independent living in apartments or cottages and customize their finishes and floor plans, and they still have access to personal care, laundry options, cable TV, and scheduled meals. The community's faith roots, flexible services, careful attention to resident needs, and wide range of amenities give seniors a secure place to live while staying connected to friends and family, all in the quiet surroundings of Myerstown, PA, in ZIP code 17067.
