About The John Clarke Retirement Center

The John Clarke Retirement Center, which folks sometimes call the John Clarke Retirement and Nursing Center, used to be the Baptist Home of Rhode Island and sits in a spot overlooking Green End Pond. The place runs as a non-profit and has been serving seniors for years. They offer both independent living for active seniors and more support for people who need it. The retirement center has two-bedroom apartments with all-electric kitchens and fifty modern, affordable one-bedroom apartments for adults age 55 and up, plus a nursing center with thirty-two private or shared rooms. The halls stay cool with air conditioning, and the main building is wheelchair accessible, with parking for residents and guests. There's WiFi throughout, restrooms that are easy to access, and delivery services for things folks need.

Meals get served in a dining room three times a day, and laundry services help keep daily life smooth. Seniors can get rides into town twice a week for errands or shopping, and there's transportation to doctor appointments and outings like visits to restaurants, farms, beaches, museums, and shops, led by a CNA driver. The activity staff puts together things like trivia nights, bingo, art classes, informative talks, musical performances, a walking club, special outings, and games like the Senior Olympic Games. Residents can relax in the TV lounge, join the walking club, visit the game room, work on projects in the craft and activity rooms, or enjoy the outdoor spaces such as the covered patio, bocce court, and putting green.

A chaplain holds services in the chapel and offers faith support to everybody, no matter their beliefs. There's an on-site beauty and hair salon for cuts and barbering when needed. For health care, John Clarke Retirement Center has on-site nurses as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapists available. They can help with things like diabetic and non-ambulatory care, pain management, rehabilitation after hospital stays, memory care, and more complex medical management, although they don't have a dedicated memory care unit with special security. Memory care, short-term treatment, respite care, and skilled nursing are available in the nursing center, which is all on one floor for easier moving around.

Staff speak English, Spanish, and Portuguese. The center has security services, emergency support, incontinence care, and help with everyday activities for residents who need it. Folks say the buildings and grounds stay clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The John Clarke Retirement Center does what it can to support seniors with independence, comfort, and medical attention when necessary.
