    Mostly negative stay; staff issues

I had a mixed but mostly negative experience. The apartment, some CMAs, therapy and food were excellent, but too many nurses and staff were rude, unprofessional and neglectful-dirty rooms, strong bleach smell, doors slammed, calls ignored, blankets denied and even dehydration risk; communication and language barriers made care inconsistent and there were surprise ADL charges. I cannot recommend this place.

About Memorial Hermann University Place Nursing Center

Memorial Hermann University Place Nursing Center sits about 3.7 miles from Bellaire, Texas, between Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital and Houston Christian University, and has been around since 1988, serving older adults with different needs for nearly four decades, always looking for ways to meet what people need as times change, and some folks know it as University Place Nursing Center; families can look at their website for details about services, view photos, check reviews-some reviews are verified-and send messages or questions, see pricing, room types, and even find out if apartments are open or schedule a tour, and there's a photo gallery showing life at the community. This place has a clean, comfortable setting with one- and two-bedroom apartments that are inviting, and the team provides personal assistance services-PAS-from nurses and aides who help residents with things like dressing, bathing, taking medication, and they're known to be steady, with low staff turnover, so most faces are familiar. Residents can get help at different care levels, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, home care, home health care, adult day services, hospice, and even respite care if someone needs a short stay, so families can pick what works for them. The 60-bed nursing center can handle people who need post-acute or long-term care, with medical help on hand all day and night from licensed professionals, and they give medication and medical management with what feels like extra attention, with programs for rehabilitation-inpatient or outpatient-so people who've had surgery or illness can work toward getting better, and there's therapy for physical, occupational, or speech needs as well as skilled nursing and specialized care. University Place Nursing Center has also been recognized with a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for quality, and has been named a Best Nursing Facility in Houston by U.S. News & World Report several years in a row, and recovery plans are made with the patient and family, so goals can be decided together, and there's support for moving into new homes with advice on finances and relocation. You'll find counseling, psychiatric care, and internal medicine too. The facility keeps a steady focus on helping each person, taking care with transition plans when needed, and the senior living community will stay open until June 2026 to help support anyone who needs to move as the Nursing Center prepares to close in September 2025.
