    Beautiful campus, inconsistent and unsafe

I liked the beautiful, spotless campus, private rooms/baths, activities and skilled therapy, and many staff were friendly and helpful. However care was wildly inconsistent - long waits, ignored call lights, slow labs, medication delays (a UTI that worsened to sepsis/INR problems), rough night staff and frequent meal/maintenance issues. I appreciated parts of the place but the safety and responsiveness failures mean I can't confidently recommend it without major improvements.

    About The Parks Senior Living

The Parks Senior Living in Odessa, Texas provides a range of living options for seniors, including independent homes, patio homes, assisted living apartments, and a skilled nursing center with long-term care and rehabilitation beds, so people can find something that suits their needs as they move through different stages of life. Folks can choose from studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, or even three and four-bedroom layouts, with features like walk-in closets, patios, full-size kitchens, garages, and accessible bathrooms, and some homes come with dens or study areas, so there's a fair bit of choice depending on how much space you want or need. The campus has secure grounds with patios, garden areas, and paths for walks, and the community's gated for safety, so people feel safe moving around outside or spending time in the common areas.

Guests and residents both have parking options, and you'll find amenities like a library to read in, a salon and barbershop for haircuts, fitness gyms for exercise programs, cable TV in rooms, Wi-Fi, fireplaces, and laundry services, all keeping daily life comfortable and familiar. Dining services are community-style, with options for special diets including gluten-free, vegetarian, and low sodium, and there's even a Private Cottage Dining Room for residents of certain homes, offering some privacy while eating if that's important. The parks prepares healthy meals and also holds religious services within the facility, so those who value that don't have to travel far.

The Parks Senior Living brings in physical and occupational therapists on a schedule for checkups and recovery if you're coming out of the hospital or need rehabilitation, and nursing and therapy staff are on hand around the clock, especially in the skilled nursing areas. The nursing team helps with things like medications, daily needs such as bathing, dressing, and eating, and there's support with showering, toileting, and grooming, including one-person transfer assistance for folks who don't walk too well. Activities fill the calendar, with musical groups, game nights, educational programs, and fitness classes, plus chances for creative and spiritual growth, aiming to keep residents social and engaged, while the transportation services are handy for doctor's appointments, shopping, or outings in town.

Memory care serves people with Alzheimer's or other dementia, keeping them safe and supported to prevent wandering and reduce stress, and respite care is available for short-term stays after surgery or when family needs a break. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted, and payments can be made by credit card or check, and administrative staff help with VA benefits and financial advice, so navigating the paperwork isn't so overwhelming. Staff offer housekeeping and laundry services, and home care aides can provide non-medical help and companionship to those in independent living or those who need a bit more support.

The Parks Senior Living makes it possible for seniors to live with a balance of independence, care, and community, whether they want to be very active, require some help with daily chores, or need skilled nursing care. The community has served seniors in Odessa for over 15 years, and while it's not perfect, it does try to cover a wide range of needs and preferences for older adults.
