    Beautiful campus, caring staff, cautious

I toured this long-standing, beautifully maintained, park-like campus near Lincoln Park and felt immediately at home - bright, clean rooms with great natural light, immaculate grounds, and a spacious dining room. The staff were overwhelmingly warm, caring and family-like, activities are abundant (dozens daily plus outings), and the food is consistently good - rehab/memory care seemed professional though a bit hospital-like in places. My concerns: hefty upfront fees and higher pricing, some reports of billing hiccups, staff turnover and occasional management or safety lapses (expired medication/fall incidents) that I'd want to probe. Overall I'd recommend visiting in person - excellent facility and care in many respects, but ask detailed questions about staffing, billing, and recent incidents before deciding.

    About The Kenney

The Kenney sits in West Seattle and has served the area since 1901, so it's got a real history of taking care of folks for generations, and it's a non-profit, faith-based senior living community for people aged 62 or older, where residents get all different levels of support, like independent living, assisted living, memory care, short-term and long-term skilled nursing, plus in-patient and out-patient rehab, so you don't have to move somewhere else if your needs change. Most residents live in their own apartments, which come fully furnished with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, air conditioning, and all the regular comforts like cable TV, internet, telephone, and even housekeeping and linen service comes around, so chores really aren't a big worry. The Kenney has skilled staff that know residents by name and give daily help with medication, meals, activities, wellness programs, and personal care, and their six levels of personalized care in assisted living apartments mean you can keep your independence but still feel safe. There's 24-hour supervision, a call system for emergencies, staff who'll arrange transportation or drive you to the doctor, and psychologists and community programs that help with social, educational, and mental needs, too. If you're in for rehab after surgery, the skilled nursing covers it, and those who need more help get memory care beds or assisted living beds, so everyone's got their needs covered.

The place has a culture of kindness and joy, where staff help out but don't hover, and the goal's always to make sure you feel respected and valued, because dignity's important. Nutritious meals with organic ingredients get served in comfortable dining rooms, and chefs work with meal planners to keep food both healthy and tasty. The Kenney Foundation helps make sure residents don't have to leave if they run into money trouble, so families can feel secure about their loved ones staying put. For fun and wellness, there's always something to do, like group walks, fitness classes, games, picnics, trips to shops or restaurants, and rooms for computers or activities, plus cleaning and maintenance so everything stays tidy without you lifting a finger. The Kenney's a Continuing Care Retirement Community, which means its care continuum supports people at every stage, from independent to assisted or memory care, with comfort and security features built right in. People who live here get meaningful activities, psychological support, educational programs, social outings, and special programs meant to keep everyone as healthy and happy as possible, all in a friendly setting that's proud to be part of West Seattle for over 100 years. The Kenney is accredited by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission of the American Association of Housing and Services for the Aging, which helps show its commitment to good standards and steady, dependable care.
