    Beautiful campus, attentive staff, pricey

I chose this community for my parent and overall I'm very pleased. The campus is beautiful - wooded grounds, gardens, auditorium and lots of daily activities - with on-site rehab, pharmacy and quick crisis response. Nursing staff and aides are warm, attentive and remembered names, though there is noticeable turnover and occasional inconsistency of care. Downsides: some buildings and apartments are old/tiny, parking is first-come, the front desk feels disorganized (volunteer-staffed, no clear director), independent living has a mandatory meal plan and pet ban, and it is pricey - but clinically capable and very favorable overall.

    About Oakwood Village University Woods

Oakwood Village University Woods sits on nearly 30 acres of wooded land, with a nine-acre nature preserve full of trails and gardens for residents who like time outdoors or just want a place to walk, and the campus has paved walking paths along with both indoor and outdoor common spaces where people can relax or meet friends, and you'll find lawns, a library, computer lab, woodworking shop, craft and arts rooms, fitness center, and a barber and beauty salon, plus there's a general store, pharmacy, and a gift shop for quick shopping or needs, and most buildings have wireless internet. The community offers a range of apartment homes with private baths, walk-in closets, full kitchens, washers and dryers, and some even have private dens or bigger layouts, and at Heritage Oaks and The Oaks, apartments range from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet and include underground parking and roof gardens, and there's both surface and underground parking for visitors, with easy elevator access. People living here choose between independent and assisted living apartments, memory care rooms, and skilled nursing - all on one campus for a full continuum of care, and staff can help with bathing, dressing, or moving around if needed, with 24-hour supervision and medication support, so whether someone is active and independent or needs more help, there's a level of support that fits. There are also rehab services and health care on site, and Oakwood brings in contracted health professionals for extra support, and the place is accredited by the Continuing Care Commission, which means standards are checked by outside inspectors.

Residents here can join in many activities, like group games, clubs, crafts, music, lifelong learning classes, and both staff-run and resident-led events, with social rooms, a fitness gym, a workout studio, spa room, and even a movie theater - plus special programs like fitness classes, personal trainers, and wellness support or bus trips for outings. Religious and spiritual care is available, with on-site facilities for worship and spiritual support, since Oakwood Village is Lutheran and church-sponsored but welcomes people of all backgrounds. The dining experience offers three meals a day, prepared by chefs, with restaurant-style seating, menu choices for dietary needs like diabetes or allergies, and all-day dining and snacks, plus the option of eating outdoors when the weather's good, and there's a primary restaurant and smaller cafes for variety. For errands and personal needs, there's a general store, laundry, cleaning and dry-cleaning services, and a beauty or barber salon, with both staff and visiting professionals available, though some services may cost extra.

Safety is key at Oakwood Village; each resident gets an emergency alert pendant to call for help if needed, and there are alert systems in the buildings as well. The community encourages connection between residents with lots of group and individual scheduled programs that focus on wellness, arts, kitchen skills, current events, faith, nature, and just simple socializing around the many sitting rooms or gardens on either University Woods or Prairie Ridge campuses. People can get help moving in, there are newsletters to keep up with campus life, and the Oakwood Foundation can offer financial help for residents in need. Oakwood Village University Woods is managed by Oakwood Lutheran Senior Ministries, a not-for-profit with a long-standing focus on giving seniors a place to feel safe, connected, and engaged, whether that means living in independent apartments or receiving more support in memory care or assisted living, and the staff aim to make sure everyone finds a sense of belonging, no matter which part of the campus they call home, and the location at 6205 Mineral Point Road in Madison is easy to find, with download-ready maps and simple parking for visitors.
