    Clean caring community; outstanding therapy

I live here and, overall, it's a clean, well-kept community with caring, attentive staff and excellent rehab and end-of-life care. Meals are fresh and customizable, activities (Wii bowling, bingo, programs, outdoor trails/pond) are plentiful, and the outdoor spaces are lovely. Rooms are mostly small studio apartments with microwave-only kitchens and limited storage; some rooms are nicer than others. Nursing is 24-hour and therapy is outstanding, but the place can be understaffed on weekends, communication from administration is uneven, and there's noticeable turnover. It's rural and peaceful, but assisted living is pricey - great care overall if you can afford it, with a few management/staffing caveats.

About Cedar Community - Cedar Lake Campus

Cedar Community - Cedar Lake Campus sits on 160 acres of rolling hills, woods, and meadows along Big Cedar Lake in West Bend, Wisconsin. This nonprofit, faith-based senior living community serves adults age 55 and better and focuses on building life-enhancing relationships, providing caring services, and maintaining a strong sense of fellowship and spirituality. The campus includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, home health, and hospice services. Housing choices range from ranch-style Village Homes to signature loft apartments, to independent living plus at The Lofts at Cedar Lake, and each style has features like private, pet-friendly spaces, washer and dryer, walk-in showers, and all utilities included for some layouts. Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center offers a five-star skilled nursing unit, specialized memory care, outpatient rehab, salon and spa, and weekly housekeeping and dining with three meals daily in The Willows.

Cedar Lake Campus is designed for comfort and familiarity, with neighborhoods of 20 units, private spacious bathrooms, and cottage-style homes with front porches. The open concept, dementia-friendly design improves wayfinding, and floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of natural light, while secure indoor parking is available in certain apartments. Residents can enjoy a natural setting with walking trails, prairies, wooded paths, and easy access to lakefront activities like pontoon boat cruises, kayaking, and fishing. There's an acre-sized secure courtyard to encourage outdoor activity. The campus also has a conservation easement, making sure woodlands, shoreline, and prairie stay preserved for everyone to enjoy.

Life at Cedar Lake Campus offers plenty of ways for residents to stay active and connected. Folks take part in music and art therapy, choirs, crafts, games, spiritual programs, and worship services including the Rosary and Bible study groups. There are community clubs, potluck dinners, trips, volunteer opportunities, artisan spaces, and coffee gatherings. Onsite, there's a pharmacy with free delivery, Cedar Lake Café, a casual eatery, and a resale shop called Cedar Closet. The larger organization runs Cedar Ridge Campus and Cedar Run Campus, each with its own services and neighborhoods, and bus tours show new residents the different home options. Cedar Community relies on nearly 400 employees and over 300 volunteers who care for around 900 residents.

Over the decades, Cedar Community has changed and grown with expansions in assisted living, memory care, and rehabilitation services, but continues to hold its faith-based mission, modeling Jesus' love through service and fostering wellbeing in mind, body, and spirit for all who live there. It stands out for its natural beauty, its nonprofit roots, and a wide variety of living and care options for every stage of aging.
