Maple Pointe Apartments stands at 150 West Maple Street in Chicago's Near North Side, with 343 units in a 20-story high-rise built in 2000 and there you'll find one-bedroom apartments, including some accessible units, mostly around 540 square feet each, with project-based Section 8 and Section 42 housing options for people who qualify, and income requirements set at zero to 80% of the area median income, plus a leasing process that includes an application, background and drug checks, and a fee, with electric and gas bills falling to residents, while water is covered with the rent. The building offers regular laundry room services though new machines are still being awaited, two on-site meals each day if needed, planned social activities, and common area updates like new rugs, so the place's gotten cleaner over time, and elevators and a controlled access system help with security and getting around. There's an air conditioned fitness center in the building for those who want to keep active, and some floorplans have balconies where you can look out at the city, plus there are storage units for residents and smoke-free living options, but no outdoor amenities are listed and nothing about pets, except that some units may be pet-friendly. The front desk staff and property manager work on site with a fast response to maintenance issues, though past residents mention that the building owner hasn't committed to many big improvements. Independent, assisted living, and memory care services are part of what's offered here, so for people who need a bit more support, help with dressing or bathing, housekeeping, and healthcare can be arranged, and there's continuing care available in some parts of the community, including nursing care as people's needs change, but memory care costs are much higher than standard senior health care for those over 65. Meals are prepared on site and made to be nutritious with good ingredients, with housekeeping and laundry help available for people in the service programs, and it's really meant for seniors who want an apartment with support close at hand, especially those aged 55 or 62 and up. The building's got high-speed internet, heating, air conditioning, on-site parking options-although details are thin and unknown on outdoor features, pet policies, and parking specifics. Every resident's lease and amenities are spelled out in property reports, over 30 in all, and the building's got legal protections to prevent discrimination based on gender identity or orientation in housing, public spaces, and jobs, along with some protection for income sources, but there aren't details about any community names for programs or staff or what those unique terms might be. The apartment complex offers both standard and accessible units, with secure controlled entry, social activities for the community, and a diverse group of folks living there. There's a professional leasing staff to help with the move-in process, and while some improvements are ongoing, the daily services and friendly environment help make it comfortable for seniors who want a place that balances privacy and support, right in an urban Chicago neighborhood.
Incompetent management; unsafe, pest-infested building
I live in this 342-unit senior building and I'm ready to move. Management is incompetent and evasive-renovations were a nightmare, residents displaced, cheap appliances and laminate glued over floors that bubbled, double sinks and tub tiles ripped out, slow ovens and a thermostat that's hard to control. Maintenance is slow to respond, elevators break often, doors left ajar, reduced water pressure, and pests (rats/roaches/bedbugs) and rowdy, disrespectful tenants make it feel unsafe. Pets are allowed and cause problems (dog mess, fights, off-leash), and security is hit-or-miss though some staff are excellent-Ms. Longay and Mr. R. Chambers were helpful. Rent/location are decent and there have been some improvements (new carpets, appliances, energy-efficiency work), but poor management, filthy common areas, and ongoing safety/maintenance issues mean I can't recommend it.
