    Lovely community, excellent amenities, pricey

I moved into a wonderfully maintained, top-25 independent living community and couldn't be happier - the lodge is tremendous, neighbors are friendly, and the place feels private, fresh and very clean. There are endless amenities: indoor and oversized outdoor Olympic pools, exercise rooms, a pier on the South River, 9-hole golf, and several restaurants. It's pricier than I expected - high HOA/outside maintenance costs and extra fees for golf - and the dining room has limited hours and repeats meals weekly. My unit is accessible and updated with railings and a step-in shower, one-level and comfortable, and I'm excited to be here.

    About Heritage Harbour

Heritage Harbour sits in Annapolis, Maryland, in a quiet spot near the scenic Chesapeake Bay and close to many historic sites, and folks in the community get to enjoy a peaceful, well-landscaped neighborhood with all sorts of home choices, from single-family houses and duplexes to condos and townhomes, and the place has over 1,600 residences and lots of green space, so it's easy to find room to stretch out or walk the dog since it's pet-friendly, too. There are homes from one to four bedrooms, ranging from 800 to 3,000 square feet, and people can buy or sell within the neighborhood, which means it fits a lot of different needs and lifestyles, whether someone wants a cozy spot or something bigger for visiting family.

The big Lodge serves as the center for events and meet-ups, with both an indoor and outdoor pool, a big auditorium for shows, meeting rooms, a library, game rooms, an arts and crafts area, a woodworking shop, a fitness center, a boutique, coffee corner, and places for Bingo and music. Heritage Harbour gives folks a nine-hole executive golf course with its own pro shop and plenty of lessons, so golf lovers have things to do, and there are tennis courts, including ones that turn into pickleball courts, as well as bocce ball, horseshoes, and a pier with boat slips right on the South River, and some residents like to kayak or spend time by the water. The Bermuda Lane spot has RV and boat storage. There's a 28-passenger community activity van for day trips, shopping, or visits to museums and festivals, and there's dependable transportation for doctor appointments thanks to volunteer drivers, which is handy for those who'd like help getting out and about.

Inside, people get to choose from services like housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation, with chef-prepared menus, restaurant-style dining, and meals for many special diets, like diabetes or allergies. Some homes come furnished, all have private bathrooms, kitchenettes, air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and there are move-in coordinators to help new folks settle in. Safety's important too, so the place has railings, step-in showers, and a 24-hour call system for help if needed.

Heritage Harbour has something for those who want to stay active with exercise classes and fitness programs, movie nights, arts, a library, walking, or joining special interest clubs like gardening or music groups, and many community events fill the calendar-dinner dances, concerts, and plays-plus outdoor programs and both resident-run and community-sponsored activities. There's help with dressing, bathing, daily activities, and medication management for those who need it, plus skilled nursing care around the clock, short-term respite stays, memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia, and a range of assisted living services. Families stay involved through support services, and there's a welcoming feeling to the way neighbors watch out for each other.

Healthcare's easy to reach with hospitals, pharmacies, and doctors' offices nearby. The place is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), which means residents can stay in one spot as their needs change, choosing between independent living, assisted living, nursing care, or specialized memory care, depending on what's needed, and every area features professional staff and accessible design.

Heritage Harbour has a clubhouse dining room, lots of outdoor common spaces, walking trails, gardens, and even a garden lounge for relaxing, as well as indoor parking, Wi-Fi everywhere, and daily programs. The community lets people be as busy or as quiet as they want, and with the combination of active lifestyle amenities, medical help, and plenty of opportunities to connect, relax, or learn something new, it aims to support older adults who want both independence and the peace of knowing help's always close by. Managed by Purple Door, LLC, Heritage Harbour remains the largest 55 and over community in Annapolis, offering a mix of comfort, activities, and care types for all sorts of retirees.
