    About The Village of Desoto

The Village of Desoto is a community where older adults over 55 can get different kinds of support and live in one of the larger homes in The Villages, with many of the homes using natural gas and tankless hot water heaters, which some folks like because it saves space and can be approved for in-ground tanks if the house didn't come with gas lines. Some homes got built after the 2002 hurricane building codes, which means their insurance costs are usually lower, but if you look at homes built before those codes, you'll probably see higher insurance bills. The place helps with assisted living, so staff help with things like dressing, grooming, medication, cooking, laundry, and cleaning. There's memory care for people with Alzheimer's and dementia where they put safety first, like using special ways to keep folks from wandering and working to lower anxiety or try to keep minds active for as long as they can. The staff offer medical services around the clock if needed, along with therapy like physical rehab, and they try to meet changing care needs as time goes by. The homes and common spaces were built to let people stay independent but still give support if they need it, and you see neighbors spending time together because the area has all kinds of group activities, events, and things to do.

The Village of Desoto has a lot to keep busy with, like five executive golf courses, pitch and putt, swimming pools, dog parks, softball fields, nature trails, and there're centers for recreation, arts at the Sharon Performing Arts Center, and gathering spots like the Savannah Center. There's the Enrichment Academy if someone wants to keep learning or try something new, and programs like Senior Games, Fit Club, running events, fishing, and Camp Villages, which give everyone plenty of ways to meet people and join in. The community has sports leagues like championship softball, and volunteers run lifestyle groups for hobbies and interests. People find paths and parks to walk dogs or get outside, and pools at the rec centers if they want to swim. Amenities get managed by community development districts, so there's a system making sure things run right, but lately, some of the amenity spaces have been getting sold using residents' amenity money, so that's something to know about.

Besides recreation, the Village of Desoto offers lots of services for daily life, like customer service, ID cards, community watch, and a Resident Academy for learning about living there. Residents get help with water, trash, irrigation schedules, and even things like RV storage or sanitation for bigger items. There's safety with community watch, emergency plans, and even employment programs for those who want to work. On the admin side, there's district property management, money management, and support for budgeting and purchasing.

When it comes to looking at homes, there's a website with tools to sort listings by price, beds, baths, or other features, and the map marks out the Desoto area in black so it's easy to spot. Sometimes virtual tours are available for properties, and listings show square footage, price, the number of bedrooms, and bathrooms. Active adults like that there are homes of all sizes, many built to be comfortable for seniors. There's a strong focus on social media, with links to Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, so folks can keep up or see what's going on in the community. The Village of Desoto is built for seniors who want both care and active living, with support as needed, options to stay busy, and services to keep things running smoothly, but like any place, insurance, costs, and what's offered can change, so folks usually look around and ask about what matters to them before making a decision.
