      Excellent care and welcoming community

My father is doing great here. The staff are always available and welcoming, the food is excellent and he happily joins meals, crafts and lots of activities (even enjoys the community dog). It's very clean, gives him a sense of belonging and purpose, and we feel he's well taken care of - great care and good value; I highly recommend it.

      About St. John's Community Care

St. John's Community Care in Edwardsville, IL, has a friendly and welcoming staff that stays involved in care, activities, and everyday life for residents, and you'll always see people around, available to help out when someone's got a question or needs support with something, which seems to make a difference for folks who like knowing that there's someone nearby if they need anything. The community stays clean both inside and outside, and has a bit of a homey feel, especially with a community dog who's around for residents who enjoy animals, because having a pet touch can really brighten the day, especially for people who grew up with animals or just like the company. There's a big focus on activities, from stretching classes, Wii bowling, and trivia games, to live dance and theater shows, plus art classes, BBQs, picnics, karaoke, group performances, and even regular devotional activities, giving people a lot to choose from if they like staying active or meeting others.

People at St. John's get care for things like diabetes, incontinence, and medication management, and there's both indoor and outdoor spaces to sit and visit, including a sunroom and a courtyard with paved paths, a fountain, and plenty of seating so folks can spend time outdoors if the weather's good. The Day Program offers social options and structured group activities during the day, which works well for people who want a cost-effective way to stay active, have company, and give caregivers a bit of a break, and that's available weekdays with hours from morning through late afternoon.

The center offers Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, Independent Living, Nursing Homes, In-Home Care, and Adult Day Care, with a wide range of studio room layouts and personalized services, so people with different needs can find a good fit, and families can get free consultations and help reviewing options without pressure, since they offer guidance on what care type might work best based on what someone needs at the time. They've also got the Caregiver Support Groups, Caregiver Courses with names like Powerful Tools for Caregivers and Stress Busting for Caregivers, and the Memory Café, which helps folks with memory loss and their families connect, get support, or just feel a bit less alone.

At both their Edwardsville and Collinsville locations, staff help adults with early memory loss, Alzheimer's, dementia, and physical challenges through social programs, cognitive exercises, games, art, music, and even pet therapy. The adult day services are open Monday through Friday with hours early to late afternoon, offer nutritious meals, and can help with mobility or dietary needs. Transportation options are available for a fee, such as the Collinsville Senior Shuttle and Madison County Transit, which helps people get out and about if they don't drive anymore.

St. John's has loaned hundreds of medical equipment pieces in 2024 through its free program and served over a hundred people through its adult day program this year. The Stay Sharp Kits help folks work on memory and mental speed, and individual support fills in the gaps for those who need something a bit more personal. The whole organization works as a ministry of St. John United Church of Christ, serving folks in the Metro-East area with respect, non-discrimination, and a mission focused on positively helping those facing age or disability challenges. The community has strong reviews, averaging 9.3 out of 10, making it well-regarded in the Edwardsville area for dependable care, meaningful activities, resources for families, and a sense of genuine warmth with programs that aim to support both participants and their caregivers.
