      Pleasant facility but safety concerns

I found the facility clean, home-like and peaceful - private rooms, home-cooked meals, porches with a woods view, many activities, and a caring, hands-on owner and staff who create a family-like atmosphere. Residents generally seemed well cared for and hospice support was available. However, my experience was mixed: my mother could not stay due to sundowning, staff behavior was inconsistent, and I observed cleanliness/safety issues (a single shared bathroom) that led me to file a complaint with Adult Protective Services. I'd recommend with caution - inspect cleanliness and staffing closely before deciding.

      About Calco's Assisted Living Inc.

Calco's Assisted Living Inc. sits at 5438 Sandy Hill Road in Quantico, Maryland, and has been around since 1989, quietly working as a private senior care home with room for nine residents, which gives the staff a good chance to really know each person and look after them with personal attention, whether that means helping with diabetes, memory care, or daily needs like bathing and dressing. The place feels homey and is kept tidy, with comfort and safety in mind, so folks get the choice of private rooms or one-bedroom options, and there's always staff on hand-day or night-for medication help or special care, even if someone needs a hand getting up or transferring to a chair or bed. The building has social spaces like a cozy kitchen and living room where residents sit, talk, play board games, or share tea, and there are planned outings and activities that help everyone stay active, both body and mind, with chances to keep learning or simply enjoy one another's company. There's a secured memory care wing inside its own building for people living with Alzheimer's or dementia, complete with safety systems like bracelets and alerts to keep everyone safe, and the staff can help with the trickier things, such as wandering or high-acuity health concerns, along with visiting nurses, therapists, and caretakers for added support. Folks can expect programs focused on their particular needs, help with blood sugar checks and insulin shots, plus reminders for bathroom visits, and the leadership, which includes an owner who takes part in daily life, encourages a sense of belonging and independence, while listening to families and working alongside health professionals to shape care plans just right for each person. Prices average about $2,947 a month, and there's a menu of services including assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing, all kept simple and straightforward so residents and their families can feel at ease, with reviews giving it an overall good reputation and a gentle, steady sense of care.
