    Disorganized, unsafe care at Maples

I regret following Northwest Hospital's recommendation to send my parent to Maples at Harbor Meadows - it was disorganized and understaffed, with medication lapses, missed showers, dirty/lost linens and belongings (even teeth), safety concerns, and poor supervision. My mother is back home and doing well at Walnut Grove: a newer, clean facility with friendly, caring and competent staff, strong PT/OT/Speech and activities (concerts, church, salon, bingo), daily housekeeping, spacious rooms and reasonable pricing. Walnut Grove can be selective and sometimes declines higher-needs patients, and I suspect some online attacks on them are unfair. Overall Walnut Grove gave excellent bedside care; Maples did not meet our needs.

About Walnut Grove Nursing And Rehabilitation Center

Walnut Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center sits on East Don Tyson Parkway in Springdale, Arkansas, with room for 102 residents, and provides different levels of care for seniors, so you'll find skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and long-term care here, and they've been certified with Medicare and Medicaid since 2008. People who move in often need help with everyday tasks like bathing, dressing, and getting around, and if someone needs special diets-like for diabetes-the center manages those, along with medication and any restrictions a doctor orders, and there's nursing care 12 to 16 hours a day, plus supervision and support around the clock for everyone's safety. Along with the care side, Walnut Grove has some comforts that help people feel more at home, like a beauty salon, a community dining room with restaurant-style meals, a gaming room, a computer center, a little library, and a fitness room, and each unit comes furnished and has its own kitchenette, private bathroom, TV, phone, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning, so folks have some of their own space if they want it. Residents can take part in activities like fitness classes, movie nights, arts and crafts, and planned outings, and there's a nice outdoor area with gardens, walking paths, and spaces to relax, plus transportation to doctor visits or local places. Family and resident councils give people a way to talk about how things are going, and support services help both residents and families adjust and stay involved. There's a staff mix that provides about 1.24 hours per resident each day-registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and nursing assistants (CNAs)-and they're careful with medical safety, tracking medication, keeping up to date records, and running checks to help prevent issues like pressure sores or infections, and the place's fully sprinklered for fire safety. Walnut Grove accepts both Medicare and Medicaid, and with 98% of beds filled most of the time, there's a steady community; staff and management work to keep things running smoothly but, like any place, there are some reported health complaints or deficiencies-17 in the last survey year-but there haven't been any fines or penalties. The Medicare overall rating is 2 out of 5, which reflects staff, health audits, and the quality of care measures, so it's something families often look at along with the rest. There are practical touches here, too-laundry and cleaning services, parking and community transport, emergency alert systems, a 24-hour call system, and for anyone who needs more support, there's extra help with moving in and daily routines. The center isn't part of a hospital or a large continuing care retirement community, but it stands as a for-profit nursing home that serves a mostly middle-class area. People usually come here if they can't live safely by themselves, but don't need full skilled nursing care every hour of the day-sometimes after a hospital stay, for rehabilitation, or as a longer-term place to call home. The center tries to create a supportive and respectful environment, and folks can find guidance about assisted living and independent living along with the main nursing and rehab services. Amenities like the game room, movie theater, spa, and outdoor programs all help with keeping folks active and comfortable, and staff aim to meet each resident's needs, whether they're in for short-term rehab or planning to stay a while.
