    Caring staff, inconsistent support quality

I'm thankful to the caring, respectful staff and nurses who treated me like family and helped me get in better shape. However, I experienced unreliable support - unresponsive aides, unanswered call lights, nurses unsure why I was there, and infrequent therapy - so quality can be inconsistent.

    About Lakeside Oaks Care Center

Lakeside Oaks Care Center, now permanently closed, was a nursing home in Dunedin, Florida, that offered skilled nursing services, memory care, and rehabilitation with a focus on post-acute and long-term care, and while it held a 2-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and was ranked 8th out of 11 communities in town, it did provide a wide range of care tailored for residents, including Alzheimer's and dementia support, non-ambulatory care for folks who had trouble walking, and special programs for memory challenges. The center had a dedicated team of nurses and caregivers who were available up to 16 hours daily, and there was a 24-hour call system so residents and families could feel at ease, and licensed nurses handled medication management, daily living help like bathing or dressing, and other health needs.

Various room layouts were offered with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, and folks could use high-speed internet, cable TV, air conditioning, and enjoy common spaces like a library, game room, spa, movie theater, and even walking paths out in the garden, so there was always something to do, especially with activities such as arts and crafts, fitness classes, and outdoor events making socializing easy. Meals were served in a dining room with restaurant-style service, they offered meal choices all day, and special diets for those with allergies or diabetes were accommodated, while housekeeping, laundry, and assistance with moving in helped keep everything running smoothly. The building itself had recent renovations to make common spaces and rooms more comfortable and safe, and the setting felt welcoming, with spaces meant for gathering indoors or outdoors, as well as rooms for quiet time or hobbies.

With the Florida state license #4808, Lakeside Oaks Care Center accepted Medicare and Medicaid, so families had some options for paying for care, and it wasn't part of a larger retirement community network, but still hosted a community-focused environment, so folks living there could join in on group activities or spend time outside if they wanted. The community specialized in skilled nursing and memory care, and care plans were personalized for each resident, and while it had an average rating of 6.4 out of 10 and the reviews showed a range of opinions with a 3.4 out of 5 score, Lakeside Oaks Care Center made a point of supporting both medical and daily living needs for seniors, and offered both short-term rehab and longer stays.
