    Neglectful care now improving cautiously

I am very disappointed. Staff were often rude, unhelpful and ignored residents, response to pain was slow, communication/management was poor (room shuffles, stopped therapy, billing issues), and the facility felt dirty and cramped-many two-person rooms with little space for belongings. I saw neglect that led to falls and bedsores and heard of sepsis/death, yet in the last three months new leadership, an excellent DON, a caring social worker and activity staff have made noticeable improvements. Overall I remain wary and would think twice before recommending this place.

About University Hills Health And Rehabilitation

University Hills Health And Rehabilitation sits in Pensacola, Florida, though some people remember it being connected to Ensley, and it runs with a total of 120 beds as a skilled nursing facility, which means it provides 24-hour nursing care under a doctor's supervision and can help folks with daily things like bathing, dressing, eating, and managing their medicine, plus it's set up to store and give out needed drugs and meets federal criteria for Medicare and Medicaid. Folks get choices between 16 private rooms or 52 semi-private rooms, with options for couples who want to stay together, and rooms come with private bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, air conditioning, telephones, Wi-Fi, and furniture if you need it. Residents have access to a library, arts room, game and fitness rooms, along with a spa or wellness room, and the building has been fixed up with recent renovations meant to improve comfort and amenities, and it offers plenty of outdoor walking paths, patios, and gardens where you can relax. The community puts on lots of planned activities like arts and crafts, gardening, movies, group talks, excursions, visiting performers, and intergenerational events with kids or young folks, and residents can join in running some programs themselves if they like. If you want spiritual support there's a worship area and regular pastoral support, plus a beauty and barber shop for haircuts. People recovering from surgery, illness, or injury can use the rehab gym, and there's a focus on physical, speech, and occupational therapy to help folks get back some independence. Meals are served in a dining room, and the kitchen can handle allergies, diabetes, or any special dietary needs. There's 12 to 16 hour nursing care with a round-the-clock call system, and staff help residents with transfers and those who can't move on their own. University Hills Health And Rehabilitation has transportation and parking, and helps coordinate move-ins, accepting both Medicare and Medicaid for payment. As a member of the Consulate Health Care family, it's for-profit, and some people mention the recent changes have made the place more welcoming, though the rating from reviews averages 2.4 out of 13, showing mixed feelings from families and former patients, but some do note positive care and a focus on both long-term help and short-term rehab. The facility also provides support and guidance for families about long-term care. The outdoor common spaces see a lot of use for relaxation or therapy. University Hills Health And Rehabilitation gives both a place to get better and a place for ongoing living, giving people a range of resources if they need steady nursing care and some extra help for daily life.
