    Excellent therapy, dangerous staffing lapses

I had a mixed experience: the facility is very clean, bright and well-maintained with a nice dining area, good activities and excellent rehab - the nurses and CNAs I met were caring and helped restore mobility. But staff are clearly overwhelmed and inconsistent (short-staffed on weekends), leading to delayed or missed care - missed bloodwork, delayed catheterization, lost belongings, and even severe infections and a death in one case. Rooms are mostly shared with curtains so privacy is limited, noise and occasional maintenance issues are a problem, and administration's reassurances felt unreliable. I'd recommend the therapy and friendly staff, but only with caution because of serious lapses in clinical care and staffing.

    About Carrollwood Care Center

Carrollwood Care Center, sitting on Hutchison Road in Tampa, has provided skilled nursing and rehabilitative care for more than 49 years, so folks can expect a team that knows what they're doing and has seen a lot over the decades, and the setting kinda feels like someone's home with comfortable chairs, loveseats, and well-kept lawns with brick accents and a big covered entryway out front. Residents can choose from private or semi-private furnished rooms, and the rooms come with private bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, Wi-Fi, and adjustable beds, plus there are privacy curtains, bedside tables, and flowers in the semi-private rooms. Day-to-day, the staff-which includes Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and skilled therapists-help residents with bathing, dressing, transferring, medication management, and other tasks, and they give 24-hour supervision to folks who need it, also with an emergency call system in every room so help's always close by.

There's a bunch of services to make life easier, like housekeeping, laundry, move-in coordination, and disability parking, and they get families involved through family and resident councils plus support services. Meals are served restaurant-style and cooked by a professional chef, with special diets planned for allergies and diabetes, and there are different places to enjoy meals or visit with others, such as the dining room and residents' lounge. The community schedules daily activities like games, arts and crafts, music, gardening, movie nights, and more-plus there's a library, activity and game rooms, an arts room, fitness center, walking paths, and relaxing outdoor spots for folks who like to get some fresh air or just chat outside. Residents and visitors can use the parking lot, and rides are arranged for trips to appointments or around town.

Care at Carrollwood Care Center covers a lot, including assisted living, memory care for residents with dementia, skilled nursing, long-term nursing, and post-acute care for folks who need recovery help after a hospital stay, along with different therapies like physical, occupational, and speech therapy depending on what each person needs, and they make individual care plans by working with the resident, their family, and their doctors. There's also respite and palliative care if families need a short-term break or support during hard times, plus restorative programs for folks who need a little extra help getting back to their best. For those with mobility limits, non-ambulatory care and assistance with getting around are available, and nursing care can last up to 16 hours a day when needed.

The center sits close to hospitals and local Tampa attractions, so families visiting can run errands, see Busch Gardens, Tampa General Hospital, or the airport, or pop up to Armature Works and other spots nearby. Carrollwood Care Center holds some recognitions, like the National Quality Bronze Award and Governor's Gold Seal, which reflect a standard of care, and the center puts strong focus on treating everyone with dignity, respect, and kindness. The place isn't perfect, and the rating sits at 3.4 from 10 reviews, but many folks have found the environment supportive and the care team responsive to changing health needs. Staff try to keep communication open, aim for compassion, and involve each resident and their family in decisions, so every care plan can fit the person as well as possible. The general approach is steady and down-to-earth, keeping daily life manageable while allowing room for fun and social connection.
