    Neglectful care, filthy, unresponsive staff

I placed my mother here and was devastated by repeated neglect: understaffed shifts, unanswered call lights, linens/laundry never changed, bugs and urine/feces smells (she sat next to a man covered in feces for two days), and nurses who ignored falls and worsening medical issues. Administration felt money-driven and unresponsive - there were missing-money/theft allegations and a general culture of denial - yet a few nurses, CNAs and social workers were genuinely caring and helped with discharge. Overall, systemic failures far outweigh the good staff; I would not recommend.

    About The Grove of Evanston

The Grove of Evanston offers assisted living, independent living, memory care, and home care services, so there's support for seniors whether they need help every day, a little bit here and there, have memory challenges like Alzheimer's, or just want to stay active and social without worrying about chores, and the place itself sits in a quiet, suburban area that feels peaceful and calm. In the main building, you'll find private suites with their own bathrooms, showers, and even small refrigerators, so residents have privacy and comfort, and the staff are known for being kind, joyful, and helpful, making the place feel welcoming and friendly. There are skilled nurses and physicians on site day and night, therapies like physical, occupational, orthopedic, speech, and special programs for things like cardiac recovery, orthopedic rehab, wound care, and even stroke rehab, and for those who need it, there are in-house services for peritoneal dialysis and ventilator care, monitored by specialists using modern equipment. Meals come from chefs and meal planners focusing on quality ingredients and balanced nutrition, and the dining spaces and big guest rooms look clean and homey, aiming to keep things relaxing and a little bit like a good hotel, and there's valet service, WiFi, parking, and restrooms built with wheelchair accessibility in mind. The Grove of Evanston also has memory care for people who get confused or need help with wandering, plus extra behavioral health services; you'll see people taking part in social and physical activities, even little perks like ice cream Fridays, all meant to help folks feel engaged and happy. The staff build support plans that match the needs of each resident, especially after hospital stays or surgery, whether it's heart problems, joint replacements, or long-term health issues, and they use a team approach to try and help people recover fully. The reputation for care is strong, with high marks in family reviews and a couple of awards for senior living, though the focus stays on comfort, simplicity, and making sure every resident feels looked after, safe, and part of a true community, so it ends up being the kind of place where people know there's help around when it's needed and some peace and quiet when they want it.
