    Attractive facility, inconsistent care, risky

I had a mixed experience. The building is attractive, clean in many areas, with electric fireplaces, an on-site Starbucks, pleasant dining at times, and excellent rehab/therapy and 24/7 medical coverage. Staffing and care were inconsistent - some nurses and aides were caring and responsive, but chronic understaffing, slow call responses, medication delays, missed personal care, wet beds/bedsores and lapses in hygiene were major problems. Administration communication and billing felt disorganized and profit-driven with incidental/duplicate charges. I'd recommend it for short, therapy-focused stays only if you accept the risk of uneven long-term care.

About The Pearl at The Tillers

The Pearl at The Tillers is a skilled nursing facility that sits in a modern building with 105 certified beds and typically cares for about 69 residents per day. It's part of Pearl Healthcare, which has several communities across Chicagoland, like The Pearl of Downers Grove and The Pearl of Joliet, and each has its own unique name and approach while still sharing the main philosophy of care, compassion, and connection. Residents here get both short-term and long-term care, with services that range from post-hospital rehabilitation to long-term nursing support, and there's a strong focus on personalized medical plans-for example, people can get help recovering from a stroke, orthopedic rehab, wound care, pulmonary care, and even dialysis or IV therapy if needed, almost like a small hospital but with a bit more of a community feel.

Rooms at The Pearl at The Tillers are designed for comfort, offering both private and semi-private suites-most have Wi-Fi, cable TV, private bathrooms, air conditioning, phones, and a small kitchenette, making things easy if someone likes to keep snacks handy or wants to call family on their own time. Residents get professional dining with chefs preparing meals that work for almost any diet, including diabetes and food allergies, and there's restaurant-style service in the dining area, though you can also get help eating if you need it, and staff can accommodate special diets pretty well. Nurses and caregiver aides provide about 3.40 hours of direct nursing care per resident per day, and there's 12 to 16-hour nursing care along with 24-hour supervision from a dedicated team, though some folks might notice that the nurse turnover rate is 48.4%, which means the staff might change a bit more often than some places, but people still describe the team as experienced and compassionate.

The community offers a few extra touches with amenities like a beauty and barber shop, a state-of-the-art movie theater, a library, furnished rooms, emergency alert systems, and even a concierge to help coordinate move-ins or schedule housekeeping and laundry services. People can walk along landscaped grounds, spend time in a community garden, or join others in programs in the music and arts room or the wellness room, and planned activities-some led by staff and some run by residents-help keep everyone connected and active throughout the day. There's also transportation if someone needs to go to an appointment, fitness and exercise rooms for staying active, and a focus on keeping the facility clean with daily housekeeping and professional laundry.

The Pearl at The Tillers accepts both Medicare and Medicaid, making it a possibility for people who need those options, and their team manages support with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and medication management, plus specialized wound care if someone has a chronic wound or is recovering from surgery. For people who need more help, they've got customized stays for respite care, sheltered care, and advanced rehabilitation services; clinical options include speech, physical, and occupational therapy. Management has been handled by Eitan Zeffren since June of 2023, and like all nursing facilities, it goes through regular state and federal inspections-most recently, inspectors have documented 27 deficiencies, including some related to infection control, which means there are areas where the facility needs to improve to keep everyone safe from infections.

The Pearl at The Tillers runs as a for-profit limited liability company and is mainly a place for people who need skilled care with a bit more medical support than at a standard assisted living facility, offering comprehensive plans to match the health needs and preferences of each resident. The facility emphasizes a resident-centered model, making adjustments to services as needed throughout someone's stay, and families often appreciate the wide range of amenities with dedicated medical support, though maybe not everything feels perfect, especially when it comes to staff changes or inspection results, but the community does try to blend comfortable living with needed health care in one place.
