    About Tradewater Pointe

Tradewater Pointe, also known as Tradewater Health and Rehabilitation Center, sits in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, and has sixty beds in thirty rooms, with eight private rooms and twenty-two semi-private rooms, and this place gives care to seniors at different levels, with skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living, memory care and dementia care, plus short-term rehabilitation care that helps bridge the gap when someone's just come from the hospital and isn't ready to go home yet, and folks like to know there's always a nurse around because they keep it open twenty-four hours a day, every day of the week. The staff here have experience and kindness, with nurses, doctors, a registered dietitian and a pharmacist keeping track of meals, fluids, weight, and all the medications so nothing gets missed. There's physical, occupational, speech, and even respiratory therapy, and therapies like manual therapy and special exercises to help folks regain movement after surgery or illness, as well as both inpatient and outpatient care options. People can also get psychiatric care, dental, eye, podiatry, and other health checks, and doctors and dentists visit on a regular schedule-one has to call the center to find out which ones. They take care of the frailest folks needing more help, but they don't accept ventilator patients.

Tradewater Pointe offers extra safety with a Wanderguard system and Mag Lock keypad, and there's a resident council meeting every month, as well as a Family Council for relatives and friends, which meets quarterly. The rooms all have a bathroom, telephone service, and television, and those who want can bring some of their own furniture if there's room for it. The dining room fits forty-four people, and they serve three regular meals a day-breakfast at seven, lunch at eleven, and dinner at five. They post the menus, but meals are non-selective, which means everyone eats the same thing unless there's a specific medical need. A registered dietitian keeps an eye on what's served and people's health, and there's never a charge for laundry. Every week a licensed hairdresser comes to offer grooming, and there's a beauty salon for appointments.

There's also visiting ministers, with church services every Sunday, so folks can keep up their faith if they wish. People enjoy the activities run by the Activities Director, like games, crafts, movies, Bible study, outings, and music. For families looking for temporary care, respite care is available and can be arranged through the Social Services Director. As for the building, it's got a refurbished dining room and a modern recreation area, and residents can use the internet, telephone, and cable TV, making things feel more like home. Admissions are possible on weekends, based on room availability, and they take Medicare, Medicaid, private pay, and various insurances. The number of beds means it feels a bit busier than a really small home, but not overwhelming, and families have opportunities to participate and stay informed through the councils. Tradewater Pointe is owned by Concord Health Systems, which runs several similar facilities, and they try to keep everyone included, cared for, and able to recover as much as possible, with both skilled care and a range of therapies.
