Dunklau Gardens is a nurturing and welcoming care home designed to offer a comfortable living experience in a compassionate environment. Residents at Dunklau Gardens can enjoy life to the fullest, assured that their needs are met around the clock through 24-hour nursing care. The facility maintains a strong focus on both comfort and expert support, ensuring that residents benefit from immediate access to skilled care as well as the emotional encouragement of being near family and friends.
Since its beginnings as a 120-bed skilled care unit in 1960, Dunklau Gardens has continuously evolved to meet the diverse needs of its community. Significant expansions over the years have enhanced the facility, including the addition of 46 private rooms in 1991, aimed specifically at residents requiring skilled nursing care. Today, the home offers 106 beds catering to skilled care needs, with 24 beds dedicated to short-term rehabilitation and four generous hospice suites that provide comfort and dignity during end-of-life care.
Dunklau Gardens is supported by a diverse and experienced staff of over 100 professionals specializing in nursing, therapy, social work, and clinical support. The team is committed to professional growth, ensuring that every staff member is certified in dementia and behavioral care. This emphasis on continuing education allows the facility to support a wide range of complex health situations, reflecting a deep commitment to providing personalized, expert care for every resident.
A major renovation in the mid-2010s transformed Dunklau Gardens to offer a more home-like and inviting atmosphere. These enhancements included an increased number of private rooms, larger private spaces and bathrooms, improved privacy in companion accommodations, and the introduction of welcoming new courtyard and community spaces. This project was made possible through a generous gift from the Rupert Dunklau Foundation, and the facility’s name was changed to Dunklau Gardens to honor this contribution and recognize Rupert Dunklau’s enduring leadership and involvement.
The fully renovated short-term rehabilitation area is known as the A.J. Merrick Rehabilitation unit, reflecting the home’s history and ongoing dedication to advanced restorative care. Throughout its history and evolution, Dunklau Gardens has remained a trusted provider in the community, earning a reputation as a place where residents are treated like family and cared for with skill, empathy, and respect. Every effort is made to ensure that individuals feel at home and receive the highest quality of care in a setting that truly values their wellbeing.
