    About Sterling Manor

Sterling Manor is a nursing home that was previously located in Maple Shade and served as a residence for elderly individuals requiring medical care and assistance with daily living. The facility, which had the capacity to accommodate 124 residents, housed 84 people as of late October, with some individuals requiring hospitalization. Over time, Sterling Manor became the subject of increasing scrutiny from state agencies due to significant concerns about its financial stability and the quality of care provided to its residents.

The nursing home faced severe challenges related to its operational practices, including allegations linked to "profiteering" and documented deficiencies in meeting healthcare standards. These concerns culminated in multiple citations issued against the facility, specifically highlighting "immediate jeopardy level deficiencies" that posed significant risks to the health and safety of the residents. The repercussions of these findings resulted in substantial fines, amounting to more than $330,000 over the course of a year.

Amid the mounting concerns, Sterling Manor was threatened with the suspension of its provider agreement with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The possible loss of Medicare payments, which were the primary source of income for the facility, placed additional financial pressure on the operation. As state oversight intensified, Sterling Manor announced plans to close by the end of January, or sooner if all residents could be relocated safely to other facilities. In compliance with officials’ directives, all residents were eventually relocated, and Sterling Manor ceased operations.

Following the relocation of its residents, the facility was tasked with ensuring the proper retention of medical records for former occupants. The public was not informed about where the displaced residents had found new accommodations, maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of those affected by the home's closure. The shutdown of Sterling Manor marked the end of its service as a care provider in the Maple Shade community, closing a chapter marked by both the care provided to vulnerable individuals and the serious regulatory challenges it faced in its final months.
