    Good rehab, inconsistent long-term care

I placed my mother here for rehab and overall it's a beautiful, well-run facility with excellent therapy three times a week, varied activities, a private room option, and many skilled, compassionate staff who genuinely helped her mobility and socialization. COVID measures were proactive and meals/menus are varied, though food can be hit-or-miss and sometimes cold. Staffing shortages and uneven staff quality led to communication problems, late meds, missed turns/call lights, cleanliness and laundry issues, and occasional lapses in care. For a rehab-focused short stay I was pleased, but I'd be cautious about long-term placement given the inconsistency.

About Stratford Manor Rehabilitation And Care Center

Stratford Manor Rehabilitation And Care Center sits in West Orange, New Jersey, offering long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, and sub-acute care with a strong mission that focuses on resident well-being. The center has 131 certified beds and averages about 119 residents per day. Private and semi-private rooms come with private bathrooms and cable television, and the whole place provides wireless internet access, so staying connected isn't hard. Pictures on their website show amenities and spaces such as a bright hair salon, a library with Internet access, lounge areas with flat screen TVs, an aquarium, and common areas designed for social activities, which are held daily for residents at all levels of functioning.

The center operates as a for-profit LLC, affiliated with MB Healthcare and is part of the Health Care Association of New Jersey. Indirect owners are Health Care Centers of NJ LLC, Stratford Manor Rehabilitation and Care Center LLC, Moshe Brodt, and Cindie Frankl, but there's no public detail about exactly who manages the day-to-day operations or the employees. Nursing staff provide about 3.55 hours per resident each day, a bit less than the state average, but the nurse turnover rate is noticeably lower than other facilities in the area. Stratford Manor hires healthcare professionals to supervise skilled nursing, wound and orthopedic care, pain management, and recovery programs. They also provide rehabilitation services in a therapy gym described as state-of-the-art and offer programs for residents with Alzheimer's and dementia. There's help available for basic daily needs like housekeeping, personal care, dressing and grooming, and companion care.

The facility sets up infection control procedures and keeps policies ready for COVID-19, along with regular health education, counseling services, and support programs for patients who need extra help. You'll find a hair salon and a beauty and barber shop, plus restaurant-style dining with gourmet specialty meals-including diets tailored for special needs-and meals are served by wait staff with linen and fine china, which is a little different from what you'd expect in many facilities. All rooms have private bathrooms, which helps with privacy. Stratford Manor also provides hospice and respite care.

On the inspection side, the center was listed with 21 deficiencies in its last report, including at least one for infection control and several for nutrition, dietary standards, and pharmacy services-like not always following food sourcing and storage rules, or ensuring monthly drug reviews by a pharmacist, so those looking for up-to-date state inspection details might want to check recent reports. All told, Stratford Manor has a mix of modern amenities, daily activities, and health programs meant for a wide range of needs, though its inspection history and nurse staffing are points you'll want to consider while looking at options. More information and photos are available on their website, stratfordrehab.com.
