    Clean facility caring staff understaffed

I'm impressed by the clean, home-like facility with a pleasant smell, outdoor area and presentable food. Staff and nurses are friendly, visit often and respond promptly, and administration is approachable-but chronic staffing shortages and limited supplies mean bedridden residents sometimes get poor care despite aides trying their best. Overall residents are generally well cared for, though understaffing is a real concern.

About Wilson Rehabilitation And Nursing Center

Wilson Rehabilitation And Nursing Center is a 90-bed skilled nursing facility in Wilson, with a focus on both short-term rehab and long-term nursing care, sitting with a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services though ranked 7th out of 8 local nursing communities, and it's got an overall community rating of 5.7 out of 10. Residents get a choice of studio room layouts, and the rooms come already furnished with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, cable TV, telephones, and air conditioning, which makes things pretty comfortable, and there's always Wi-Fi through the building. The place usually has about 72 residents a day and it's known for providing both skilled nursing and intermediate care, especially for people who need heavy nursing support, as well as those just needing rehab after surgeries or injuries before heading home.

Wilson offers a wide range of support, including help with daily needs like bathing, dressing, and managing medications, and there's help for people who can't move around on their own, plus a dedicated orthopedic and sports medicine unit for more specialized needs, along with a wound healing center and a big 10,000 square foot physical rehab gym in the rehabilitation wing. There are a bunch of amenities, such as an arts room, game room, library, movie nights, scheduled music, a fitness room, spa/sauna, business center, outdoor program area, walking paths, a garden, and a veranda, plus there's a dining room and a home-like kitchen and bath especially for folks in rehab. Wilson gives residents meal plans that take into account allergy needs and diets for diabetes, and there's move-in help, an emergency alert system, transportation, and parking for people coming and going.

The nursing home is for-profit and affiliated with Lifepoint Hospitals, but it's not part of a CCRC, and it takes both Medicare and Medicaid. Right now, 18 certified beds are expected to be open in June 2025. The facility puts effort into getting resident and family feedback by having regular councils, and it's got 3.60 nurse hours per resident each day, which is just under North Carolina's average of 3.8. The nurse turnover rate's about 43.9%, which is better than the state average. Staff provide 12-16 hour nursing schedules and a 24-hour call system, so there's always somebody to help if needed.

While Wilson Rehabilitation And Nursing Center offers many services and amenities, it's also had reports on some weaknesses, including four deficiencies such as not always reporting suspected abuse or neglect, some issues with labeling and storing medicines, lapses in infection control, and those troubles all showed up in past inspection reports. Despite these, the facility continues to offer both comfort and skilled medical attention for seniors who need extra help to get back on their feet or for those who need longer-term support to live as safely and independently as possible.
