Clyde W Cosper Texas State Veterans Home sits in northeastern Texas, right next to the Sam Rayburn Memorial VA Medical Center, and has served Texas veterans, their spouses, and Gold Star parents since it opened back in 2001, with steady updates and renovations done over the years to keep things working well. The home can care for up to 160 residents, including a secured, certified Alzheimer's unit with 32 beds for those who need special memory care. The facility is both Medicare and Medicaid certified. It belongs to the State of Texas, Veterans Land Board and is managed under contract by Texas VSI, LLC, with HMR Veterans Services, Inc. handling daily operations since 2016. The building is named after Army 2nd Lt. Clyde W. Cosper, a World War II pilot who gave his life in the line of duty and was honored with military awards for his service. The home has long-term nursing care and offers a whole range of services like assisted living, independent living, nursing care, memory care, and respite care. The residents, all veterans and their families, get support from a staff trained to honor their unique needs, and there are special areas and features meant just for veterans. People can use rehabilitation programs with physical, occupational, and speech therapies, and there's always access to medical and support services. The secured Alzheimer's unit has cozy visiting spots, a private dining room, and its own activity space, all within a safe courtyard that lets residents get fresh air. There are also organized activities inside and outside the home, plus amenities to help everyone feel at home. Specialty pharmacy services come from HMRX Pharmacy Services, and management provides things like consulting, IT support, survey preparedness, and training for the staff. Everything's designed so veterans and their loved ones can find comfort, respect, and care in their daily lives.

Exceptional staff, clean rooms, activities
This veteran-focused community was special to John and me - the staff became like family: exceptional, caring, always responsive and communicative, so I never worried about his well-being. Rooms are clean, homey and secure (semi-private and not spacious but well-maintained and decorated) and the memory-care programming is solid. Engaging activities (bus trips, bingo, movies, music, outings) plus regular updates make it excellent value for money.
