    Poorly run, filthy, money-driven care

I had a mixed but mostly negative experience. The place is poorly run, often filthy, and feels money-focused - required discharge equipment (wheelchair, shower chair, hospital bed) wasn't provided and I was double-charged. Many staff were unprofessional and inattentive; COVID lockdowns and strict visitor rules made things worse, and I heard several horror stories. That said, a number of caregivers and the DON/administrator were compassionate and hands-on and did help resolve problems. Overall I'm dissatisfied and would not recommend this facility.

The Garrison Center in Lubbock, TX is a state-of-the-art geriatric education and care center with 120 beds, offering both private and semi-private rooms, and has well-kept grounds that make the place feel open and welcoming. The center has skilled nursing care, assisted living, memory care, and independent living, plus short-term and long-term rehab services, and people talk a lot about how the full-time in-house therapy team works on-site with therapy plans tailored for each resident, including hands-on and state-of-the-art rehabilitation programs for those recovering after hospitalization. Care here is available 24 hours a day, and a hands-on Director of Nurses oversees the work, while friendly staff aim to help with daily needs, such as bathing, dressing, and medication.

They focus a lot on helping seniors who have memory problems like Alzheimer's with individualized care plans, secure spaces to prevent wandering, and regular cognitive stimulation activities. When it comes to food, there's a broad choice, from buffets and soul food to Asian, Southern, Vietnamese, pizza, and Western restaurants, and chefs and meal planners make meals prepared for nutrition and taste. The dining area is open for visits from relatives and friends, who can join for meals if they like.

The Garrison Center also provides a wide list of hospitality services, including hotels and lodging that go all the way from 1-star up to 5-star reviews, and there are also amenities like coffeehouses, tea rooms, cupcake bakeries, ice cream shops, and bubble tea stores. There are rooms and event spaces that can be adjusted for gatherings, whether someone's looking to host a birthday, a corporate meeting, or a community celebration. The place aims to create an environment where people feel both independent and cared for with respect and dignity, so happiness and well-being stay at the center of daily life.

The facility has a link with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and runs educational programs about geriatric health and aging research. The staff provides home health respite education, home retro-fitting programs for safe living, outreach programs, and social work, which helps with discharge planning. The Garrison Center is accredited by The Joint Commission, which means it meets high standards for care. Residents get personalized programs for physical, occupational, and speech therapy, plus caregiver education for friends and family. Between its 50 long-term care beds and overall 120 beds, the center supports those needing different levels of care, from simple support to high-acuity medical treatment. The community hasn't posted pricing publically, and it's seen as a very good option with an average rating of around 2.8 to 3.0 stars, which suggests solid but mixed experiences by those who've left reviews. Above all, the center is known for its kind, helpful, and joyful staff, plus a full activities calendar that keeps people active in mind and body.
