    Great therapy, concerns for fragile

I was initially very pleased - the facility is lovely, rooms renovated, staff warm and friendly, and the rehab team is excellent (they got my mom home walking). Chef Mike's restaurant-style dining and the activities made it feel homey. That said, for higher-acuity rehab patients we had serious concerns: they lacked some services (no speech therapist), doctor coverage was inconsistent, communication about my mom's decline was poor, and a delayed transfer to hospital followed low blood pressure and complications. Staffing shortages sometimes made care feel rushed, and administrative issues (incorrect allergy list, high bed-hold fee) were frustrating. I appreciated the compassionate staff and effective therapy, but would advise families of medically fragile patients to confirm clinical capabilities and physician availability first.

About Bowling Green Health & Rehabilitation Center

Bowling Green Health & Rehabilitation Center sits at 120 Anderson Avenue in Bowling Green, VA, just across from the Food Lion on Broadus Avenue, and has been a steady part of Caroline County for over 50 years, always focusing on giving care and support to people who need long-term care or help recovering from surgeries and injuries-it's the only center of its kind in the county, offering both long-term stays and short-term rehab. The facility has 120 licensed beds, with both private and semi-private rooms, each with an ensuite bathroom and an accessible shower or tub, and staff are always around to help day or night, making sure no one feels left alone.

Specialized care stands out here, since people recovering from hip or knee replacements, strokes, heart attacks, falls, or surgery can use the LifeWorks Rehab® Recovery Program, which is only offered here, and patients can track their daily progress on the Recovery Map™ and Personal Report Card™, which gives families peace of mind too; therapy is available every day, most weeks, and typically goes on for about two to three hours per session in their state-of-the-art gym, which has lots of modern equipment like strength training machines, a dynamic stair trainer, cyber cycles, and the HUR iBalance machine for steady and safe rehab.

There's a range of services for both physical and mental health-with a team that includes physicians, nurses, certified nursing assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, and even psychiatrists and psychoanalysts-so folks get care from people who know them and aren't just temporary faces going in and out, plus individualized care plans get made for everyone who stays. Personal care, laundry, housekeeping, and banking services are on site, so daily needs are easier to handle, and a hairstylist visits so people can feel like themselves; the Activities Coordinator runs events so it never feels too quiet or lonely.

The dining room feels comfortable, with restaurant-style meals that the Dietary Team prepares, making food tasty for different diets, and everyone can choose from a wide range of meal options. The facility tries hard for a home-like, friendly feel, and most staff speak English as the main language, keeping things simple. People who need recovery from accidents or planned surgeries, or who need skilled nursing for the long-term, can find care here, although they're not taking new patients right now. Christina Wiley and Janeene Wood serve as administrators, and the parent company, Medical Facilities of America, operates the facility, which is seen as a solid choice for quality care according to the Facility Locator. Daily room rates are set for both private and shared options. The website, www.bowlinggreenhealthrehab.com, has more about their programs and services.
