    Neglect, abuse, poor care, hospitalization

I stayed at Regency Health Care Center and it was horrific - staff were incompetent and neglectful. I saw residents left in feces for hours, a janitor/security bathing people, staff laughing during abuse, and unsafe catheter/wound care and medication errors (a port was mishandled). Doctors were unresponsive, communication and phone access were terrible, and my oxygen dropped to 88 with fluid buildup, resulting in hospitalization. The rehab and some therapists/CNAs were decent and the rooms are okay, but overall I would avoid this place.

About Regency Health & Rehabilitation Center

Regency Health & Rehabilitation Center sits in Yorktown, Virginia, right in a charming waterfront town with a long history and a pretty nice view out the windows if you like a peaceful setting, and with 60 beds in private or semi-private rooms, there's usually space for folks needing care after surgery, an illness, or even those who need to stay for the long haul when living at home isn't an option anymore, so you see all kinds of people coming through, each with their own needs that the place tries to meet by having separate care units for those with different health concerns and by bringing together a team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and even a dietitian and cooking staff who aim to help folks recover or live as comfortably as possible. The facility is called a Skilled Nursing Facility, or SNF, and you'll find that they really focus on building recovery and wellness right into the daily routine with their state-of-the-art rehabilitation gym, which has the newest therapy machines and gadgets and can offer therapy services up to seven days a week, for two or three hours a day if needed, as part of the LifeWorks Rehab Recovery Program, which everybody says is their unique, proven way to help folks become more independent again, and they use little extras like the Recovery Map and Personal Report Card so each person can track their own progress, which some like since it gives a sense of moving toward a goal. The rooms each have an ensuite bathroom with either a shower or tub that's easy to get into, and the whole place has modern safety features, as you'd expect in Virginia these days, plus there's a restaurant-style dining room where cooks and a chef make a variety of meals each day, and an Activities Coordinator plans things for people who want to join in or just need something to do. Christina Wiley serves as the administrator and runs the daily business, making sure the place keeps up with what residents need, and the staff doesn't use outside contractors, so most caregivers you meet work right there for good. Regency offers skilled nursing care, rehabilitation for those recovering from accidents or surgery, as well as long-term care for people who need ongoing help, with every care plan tailored to the person, so nobody really gets lost in the shuffle, and the friendly, professional team works to create a welcoming environment, which shows through their person-centered way of doing things, and while it's all quite modern, the place manages to still feel comfortable and a bit like home for many. They offer a website with more detailed information for people who want to learn about costs, services, or room availability, but it comes down to being a solid choice for folks in Yorktown looking for a facility that covers skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and long-term living, all in a safe, well-organized setting.
