    Neglectful understaffed dirty overpriced care

I placed my mother here and deeply regret it. Care was unacceptable: wrong and delayed meds (once up to 31 hours), BiPAP not set up, personal care delayed, staff unresponsive to call buttons - she was eventually transferred by ambulance and hospitalized. We found bed sores, pain meds withheld, a nebulizer mask on the floor, missing clothes/teeth, rude/unaccountable management (DON Sandy), and they even attempted eviction without proper notice. The place is understaffed and overpriced; a few rehab and activity staff were excellent and the location/activities are decent, but the building felt dreary and cleanliness was poor. I would not recommend this facility - my family had to constantly intervene and our loved one was forgotten.

About Newport News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

Newport News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center sits at 12997 Nettles Drive, right in Newport News, VA, and folks know it for giving nursing care, post-acute care, and skilled rehabilitation right alongside long-term care. The place holds 102 licensed beds and offers both private and semi-private room options with daily rates for each, and you'll find furnished rooms, meals, cable or satellite TV, and an emergency call system in all the units. Constate Health Care, a national group, runs things here, and the Executive Director is named Chad Breach, though some records mention Ms. Helene Flynn too. The staff stays on duty 24 hours a day-around 73 full-time workers in total-with 35,594 patient days noted for the last year, and they all aim to take care of people's bodies, minds, and spirits using carefully planned, personal approaches.

The center gives folks different types of care-short-term rehab for those just having surgery or recovering illness, long-term care for those needing daily help, skilled nursing support, and special Alzheimer's and dementia care with a secure memory unit. They also have respite care if a caregiver needs a break, hospice care, and lots of therapies like physical, occupational, and speech, and there's also medication management, personal care, and tailored health plans. There's a beauty and barber salon, a lounge, a library, plus social outings and transportation for residents, and staff encourage people to join in events or activities that fit their interests. Education wise, the center connects to resources on several websites like VirginiaNavigator or SeniorNavigator, and their online library gives articles, tips, guides, and event info to help with caregiving or staying active.

Room rates depend on if you want a private or semi-private setup, and the place mostly looks and works like many nursing facilities, with standard features and medical programs and a focus on both efficient operation and community support, keeping an eye on how they compare to others in cost, staffing, and patient care. The Newport News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center offers a steady, practical choice for people who need anything from short-term rehab to help with memory problems or simply some daily care as they age. All the information about what they offer and how they operate is on their main website at www.consulatehealthcare.com.
