Brewster Village is a community dedicated to providing both short-term rehabilitation and long-term nursing services, with a focus on meeting each individual's unique social and medical needs. The care philosophy is grounded in person-directed values, where the voices of residents, known as villagers, are highly encouraged and respected. At the core of Brewster Village’s approach are principles such as choice, dignity, respect, self-determination, and purposeful living, all designed to ensure that residents lead meaningful lives in a caring and comfortable environment that feels like home.
Residents at Brewster Village enjoy a wide variety of daily life enrichment opportunities that cater to a range of interests and abilities. Activities include personal hobbies, baking and cooking, spiritual groups and services, book clubs, community outreach, and a rich assortment of entertainment and arts experiences such as music, painting, poetry, and crafts. In addition, there are opportunities for exercise, strength-building, and social gatherings like happy hours and socials. Residents may also choose to go on excursions to local stores, restaurants, museums, and other attractions, participating as much or as little as they wish. The community is designed around households of 13 to 14 residents, which promotes the development of meaningful relationships among villagers and staff. Each resident enjoys a private room and bathroom, which can be fully customized and personalized with items from home to create a truly individualized living space.
An outstanding feature of life at Brewster Village is the Cycling Without Age program, a unique initiative that gives community members and residents the chance to venture outdoors in rickshaws. This opportunity allows participants to experience the joy of being outside, enjoying the wind and sun, while building intergenerational relationships and sharing life stories. The program fosters connections, creates lasting memories, and is accessible to anyone wishing to ride, including friends and family members. Volunteer pilots operate the rickshaws, making it possible for villagers to continue experiencing the freedom and adventure of the outdoors while the program continues to expand and seek new ways to enrich the lives of participants.
Brewster Village is also a certified participant in the Wisconsin Music and Memory Program. This nationally recognized initiative helps individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias reconnect with the world around them through the power of music, using personalized iPods and playlists tailored to each resident’s preferences and history. This program is part of Brewster Village’s broader commitment to person-centered care, ensuring that every individual’s needs, comforts, and joys are prioritized.
The community is recognized for its high standards in overall quality measures and continually strives to create an environment where residents feel truly at home, supported, and engaged. From private, customizable living spaces to innovative recreational and therapeutic programs, Brewster Village stands out as a vibrant, supportive home where every resident’s dignity, autonomy, and well-being are at the heart of daily life.
