    Cozy compassionate care with drawbacks

I moved my loved one in recently and overall I'm very pleased - the staff are friendly, the house is clean, homey and quiet with nice outdoor areas, the owner communicates with family, move-in was smooth and placement quick, and they even brought in hospice and handled everything compassionately and promptly. My main concerns were understaffing, few activities and meals that felt processed and small in portion, with staff sometimes distracted. Despite that, management exceeded expectations, rooms are private and orderly, and I would definitely recommend this cozy, well-kept place.

    About A Comfort Care Home

A Comfort Care Home sits in a quiet, nice neighborhood in central Bakersfield, California, and holds a state license for a small, six-bed residential care home, License #157206689, with Administrator Evangeline Schissler in charge. The home's been running since 2013 and keeps a small staff between two to ten employees, with at least two caregivers always on duty. The staff provides round-the-clock care and helps with things like bathing, dressing, walking, and transferring, and also gives medication reminders, does diabetic care with insulin and blood sugar checks, and manages special diets for diabetes, allergies, kosher, or vegetarian needs. Rooms are private or semi-private, with wheelchair access, full tubs, and private baths, and plenty of comfortable space. The place feels like a real house, with a large backyard, walking paths, and gardens, plus movie nights, group meals, a community room for socializing, and scheduled activities like planned walks and gatherings to keep folks busy and connected.

The staff and nurses help residents with memory problems, including Alzheimer's and dementia, in a special, secured section of the home, using alarms and bracelets for safety if someone tries to wander off, and can help with behaviors that sometimes come with these conditions. There's behavioral care, custom care plans, and brain-stimulating activities, with caregivers who know how to handle people who may act out or have trouble with bladder or bowel control. Housekeeping, laundry-even dry cleaning-get done for every resident, and the homemakers prep fresh, home-cooked food that can fit just about any need. The home gives transportation, and there's parking for visitors or outings, making trips to parks, coffee shops, or the store easy enough. A Comfort Care Home also offers respite stays, hospice, and support for folks who only need short-term care or special arrangements, and the staff will work with families to make sure each resident enjoys as much independence and dignity as possible, always adjusting care as needs change.

Residents stay busy and can join in devotional services, enjoy swimming and hot tubs, use indoor and outdoor spaces, take part in communal activities, or simply lounge in their rooms with emergency alert systems nearby. The home has a straightforward adult care model-sometimes called personal care or assisted living home-so seniors get board and care in a true house, not a big facility, and that gives the place a friendlier, less crowded feeling. The team, led by Evangeline Schissler, makes sure everyone feels respected and important, giving updates and advice to families, offering help with options, and keeping the home clean and safe, and while they're not perfect, they've got a strong record and a five-star review praising their commitment. Folks interested can find full details and photos on their website and can look into payment options, floor plans, or more about what life's like at A Comfort Care Home.
