    Caring staff serious facility problems

I found the therapists, nurses, CNAs and social work team genuinely caring, skilled and responsive - rehab was strong, meals and ocean-view rooms were a plus, and some admins were excellent. Unfortunately the facility is older and understaffed; I saw poor cleanliness, missed/late meds, unanswered call buttons, safety incidents and spotty communication from management. Administration felt inconsistent - talented front-line staff but troubling accountability and sanitation problems. Bottom line: great people and effective therapy, but serious facility/management issues mean I'd only use this place with close oversight and caution.

About Encinitas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

Encinitas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center sits just north of San Diego and offers specialized care for older adults needing skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and memory care, and while the building has 99 beds for both short- and long-term stays, it holds a home-like feel and sits close to the beach with outdoor areas for fresh air and sunshine, which many residents enjoy. The center runs 24 hours a day, every day of the week, so residents always have access to registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, and certified nursing assistants, and the staff is known for being helpful, joyful, and kind to everyone, visitors and each other, too. The facility helps seniors after surgery, injury, or illness with physical, occupational, and speech therapy up to seven days a week, and even offers special programs like Stroke Recovery, Orthopedic-Fracture Recovery, Respiratory Specialty, and Wound Care and Skin Management, plus they have pain and diabetic management, fall prevention, IV therapy, and hospice care. Trained staff provide support for memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, and they help people adapt to their living spaces and daily tasks using therapies that focus on whatever independence or rehabilitation goals residents want. The activities team plans a rotating monthly schedule that includes cooking classes, movies, music, arts and crafts, religious programs, and trips into the community, so folks have a chance to stay active and social, and new activities assistants get training to help with this, which helps everyone feel included and engaged. There's an open dining room where people can pick from balanced, fresh meals every day, and all the food aims to be nutritious and well-made. The nurses and therapy teams always try to help each person reach the best function possible and support them in returning to the lowest care level practical, while at the same time providing advanced medical care when needed, such as cardiac recovery, enteral therapy, post-acute surgical care, PICC lines, tracheostomy and ostomy care, contracture and urinary incontinence management, and even ophthalmology services if they're needed. Family members often appreciate that admissions are open around the clock and there's a strong sense of dignity, kindness, and comfort throughout the place, and because the facility is Medicare- and Medicaid-certified with 92 certified beds, it works well for many who need comprehensive medical care and financial options. Residents can also attend church, use transportation services, and enjoy outdoor and indoor common areas, so even while getting serious medical care, people are treated with respect, given chances to be part of a community, and supported by professionals who treat everyone like family. There are full-time jobs for LVNs and CNAs, as well as roles in admissions and activities, and the center keeps making improvements and measuring quality with ratings in care, activities, and friendliness, and that's the kind of steady approach many find reassuring.
